Conor O'Sullivan (hurler)
Conor O'Sullivan (born 8 March 1989) is an Irish hurler who plays for Cork Senior Championship club Sarsfields and at inter-county level with the Cork senior hurling team. He usually lines out as a left corner-back. Playing career Glanmire Community College O'Sullivan first came to prominence as a hurler with Glanmire Community College. Having played at every grade, he was a midfielder on the college's senior team that played in the Harty Cup. University College Cork During his studies at University College Cork, O'Sullivan established himself as a forward on the senior hurling team. On 7 March 2009, he lined out at left corner-back when UCC defeated the University of Limerick by 2-17 to 0-14 to win the Fitzgibbon Cup. Sarsfields GAA is a hurling club is based in the Riverstown and Glanmire area of County Cork. The club plays in the Imokilly division of Cork GAA. They have won six County Championships, 1951, 1957, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014. They have also won three Minor County Championships, 2007, 2008 and 2014. The club derives its name for the Irish Jacobite and soldier Patrick Sarsfield, 1st Earl of Lucan. County Championship history While the club reached a number of championship semi-finals prior to 1936, it wasn't until the 1936 Cork Senior Hurling Championship before the club contested their first final. Bride Rovers GAA is a Gaelic games club located in the villages of Rathcormac and Bartlemy in east County Cork, Republic of Ireland. Stephen McDonnell (hurler)
Stephen McDonnell (born 28 January 1989) is an Irish hurler who plays as a corner-back for Premier Senior Championship club Glen Rovers. He made 70 appearances for the Cork senior hurling team between 2011 and 2020, serving as captain for two seasons. McDonnell began his inter-county career as captain of the Cork minor team in 2007. After a stint with the under-21 team, he joined the Cork senior team for the 2011 season and made his last appearance as a substitute during the 2020 qualifiers. In the interim, McDonnell started in the 2013 All-Ireland final draw and replay defeat by Clare and won two Munster Championship titles, the second as captain of the team in 2017. After a successful underage career, McDonnell made his senior club championship debut with Glen Rovers as a 17-year-old in 2006 and has since established himself as one of the mainstays of the team. 2012 National Hurling League
The 2012 National Hurling League commenced in February 2012. 34 GAA county hurling teams: 32 from Ireland (including Fingal but not Cavan), London and Warwickshire, contested it. On 6 May Kilkenny defeated Cork in the final to win their 15th NHL title, moving them to second place in the all-time roll of honour, behind Tipperary who have won 19 Leagues. Format The 2012 format was originally to consist of five divisions: Divisions 1 and 2 having eight teams in each, Division 3A six, Division 3B seven, and six teams in Division 4. However, this was controversially altered to a system of six divisions, with six teams in divisions 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B and 3A, and four in division 3B. This meant that many counties were effectively relegated to a lower division. The 2009 National Hurling League (known as the Allianz National Hurling League for sponsorship reasons) was the 78th season of the National Hurling League. Structure The National Hurling League saw a major restructuring of the usual four divisions with the teams divided more equitably into a five-tier structure. Division 1 was a single division and was confined to the top eight teams. The top two teams in the division qualified for the final. Division 2 operated in a similar manner. Gerald McCarthy (born 12 September 1945) is an Irish former hurling manager and player. In his playing career he was known for his intelligent anticipation, his ability to find open space and his overhead striking of the ball. A versatile player who lined out in no less than eight different positions, McCarthy made his name as an attacking midfielder and as a centre-forward.
