Conor Burke (hurler)
Conor Burke (born 1998) is an Irish hurler who plays for Dublin Senior Championship club St. Vincent's and at inter-county level with the Dublin senior hurling team. He currently lines out at midfield. Career A member of the St. Vincent's club in Marino, Burke first came to prominence on the inter-county scene on the Dublin minor team that won the 2016 Leinster Championship. He subsequently progressed onto the Dublin under-21 team as well as lining out with DCU Dóchas Éireann in the Fitzgibbon Cup. Burke was just out of the minor grade when he was added to the Dublin senior hurling team, making his debut during the 2017 Walsh Cup. Marino () is an inner suburb on the Northside (Dublin), Northside of Dublin, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It was built, in a planned form, on former grounds of Marino House, in an area between Drumcondra, Dublin, Drumcondra, Donnycarney, Clontarf, Dublin, Clontarf, and what became Fairview, Dublin, Fairview. The initial development featured around 1,300 concrete-built houses. The design of the new Marino development was heavily influenced by the Garden city movement, Garden City Movement, which originated in the United Kingdom with Ebenezer Howard, Sir Ebeneezer Howard. Howard's idea came from 19th-century writings which inspired him to build the opposite of the general urban conditions that existed at the time, hence building the "Garden City", to be "a perfect combination of rural and urban living". St Vincents GAA
St Vincents is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Marino, on the northside of Dublin, Ireland. The club was founded in 1931 in Marino, instrumental in the founding of the club were Rev Dr William Fitzpatrick (St Vincent de Paul Church, Marino) and Bro. Ernest Fitzgerald (Scoil Mhuire CBS, Marino). Although its club grounds were in Raheny for a number of years, it moved to its home back into Marino in 1987. St Vincents merged with Marino Camogie Club in 1997 to form the St Vincents Hurling, Football and Camogie Club. They have won the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship on three occasions, most recently in 2014. They are the most successful side in the Dublin Senior Football championship having won the title 29 times. Dublin City University Gaelic Athletic Association Club ( ga, Cumann Luth Chleas Gael Ollscoil Chathair Bhaile Átha Cliath) is the GAA club at Dublin City University. The club fields teams in men's Gaelic football, hurling, ladies' Gaelic football and camogie. It also organises Gaelic handball. The club mainly competes in intervarsity competitions such as the Sigerson Cup, the Fitzgibbon Cup, the O'Connor Cup and the Ashbourne Cup. Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. Dublin Senior Hurling Championship
The Dublin Senior Hurling Championship ( ga, Craobh Sinsear Iomána Átha Cliath) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Dublin GAA, Dublin County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (Gaelic Athletic Association, GAA) since 1887 for the top hurling clubs in County Dublin, Ireland. Sixteen clubs compete. Initially the teams are divided into four groups of four with the group matches being played from April to May with a break to accommodate the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, All-Ireland Championship and resume during August or September. The group stage is followed by a Tournament#Knock-out tournaments, knock-out phase which takes place during the months of October and November. The Dublin county hurling team represents Dublin in hurling and is governed by Dublin GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. 2016 All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship
The 2016 All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship was the 86th staging of the All-Ireland hurling championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1928. It is the primary inter-county hurling championship for boys under the age of eighteen. The championship began on 6 April 2016 and ended on 4 September 2016. Galway entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were beaten by Tipperary in the All-Ireland semi-final. Fitzgibbon Cup
The Fitzgibbon Cup ( ga, Corn Mhic Giobúin) is the trophy for the premier hurling championship among higher education institutions (universities, colleges and institutes of technology) in Ireland. The Fitzgibbon Cup competition is administered by Comhairle Ard Oideachais Cumann Lúthchleas Gael (CLG), the GAA's Higher Education Council. Comhairle Ard Oideachais also oversees the Ryan Cup (tier 2 hurling championship), the Fergal Maher Cup (tier 3 hurling championship) and the Padraig MacDiarmada (tier 4 hurling championship). The 2017 Bord na Móna Walsh Cup was the 55th staging of the Walsh Cup since its establishment in 1954. Kilkenny won their 20th title after a 0-20 to 0-18 win against Galway in the final on 5 February.
