Connie Buckley
Connie "Sonny" Buckley (24 November 1915 – 27 January 2009) was an Irish hurling, hurler who played as a centre-forward for the Cork GAA, Cork senior team. Buckley made his first appearance for the team during the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 1934, 1934 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 1941, 1941 championship. During that time he won one All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, All-Ireland medal, one Munster Senior Hurling Championship, Munster medal and two National Hurling League, National League medals. An All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion, Buckley captained the team to the All-Ireland title in 1941. Glen Rovers GAA
Glen Rovers is a Cork (city), Cork-based Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Blackpool, Cork, Ireland. The club was founded in 1916 and is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. They were Cork senior hurling champions in 2015 and 2016, having won their first title in 26 years in 2015. They retained the championship in 2016, when they beat Erin's Own in the final. Dual player or dual star is a term used in Hiberno-English to describe someone who competes in multiple sports — for example, in Victorian Ireland, cricket and hurling. The term today in Gaelic games typically describes a male player who plays both Gaelic football and hurling or, if a female player, a player of ladies' Gaelic football and camogie. The player does not necessarily have to play at the same standard in both sports. The number of dual stars at county level has decreased recently due to the increasing demands placed upon the best players of both sports. Jimmy Kelly (1930s Hurler)
James Kelly (1916 – 3 April 1985) was an Irish hurler who played as a midfielder for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Carrickshock, County Kilkenny, Kelly first arrived on the inter-county scene when he first linked up with the Kilkenny senior team. He made his debut in the 1938 championship and immediately became a regular member of the team. During his career he won two All-Ireland medals and six Leinster medals. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on three occasions. Kelly also represented the Leinster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions, winning one Railway Cup medal. At club level he won six championship medals with Carrickshock. His retirement came following Kilkenny's defeat by Laois in the 1949 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, 1949 championship. Paddy Phelan
Patrick Phelan (16 September 1910 – 7 December 1971) was an Irish hurler who played as a left wing-back for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Freshford, County Kilkenny, Phelan arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-one when he first linked up with the Kilkenny senior team. He made his debut in the 1931 championship. Phelan went on to play a key part for more than a decade, and won four All-Ireland medals, eight Leinster medals and one National Hurling League medal. Phelan was an All-Ireland runner-up on four occasions. Phelan represented the Leinster inter-provincial team for a remarkable thirteen years, winning four Railway Cup medals in 1932, 1933, 1936 and 1941. At club level he won three championship medals with Tullaroan. Throughout his career, Phelan made 42 championship appearances for Kilkenny. Ballincollig GAA is a Gaelic football and hurling club based in the town of Ballincollig, County Cork, Ireland. Midleton Hurling and Football Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the town of Midleton in County Cork, Ireland. The club plays in the Imokilly division of Cork GAA. History The concept of a Gaelic Athletic Association was first mooted in 1883 when a sub-committee of the Irish Republican Brotherhood was formed with the ideal of creating a National Athletic body.
