Connell (barony)
Connell (), also called Great Connell, is a barony in County Kildare, Republic of Ireland. Etymology Connell derives its name from Old Connell (Irish ''Seancongbhail''/''Seanchonail'', "old settlement"), a site in modern Newbridge where Saint Conleth lived as a hermit until his consecration in AD 490. Later it was the site of Connell Ford, a crossing point on the Liffey, and Great Connell Priory was built on the east bank in 1202. Location Connell barony is found in central County Kildare, from the bend of the Liffey to the Hill of Allen. History Connell barony was part of the ancient territory of the Uí Fáeláin sept of the Uí Dúnlainge branch of the Laigin sept, and ancestral home of the Uí Broin before the arrival of the Normans. The Uí Thuathail (O'Tooles), allies of the O'Byrnes, were also here. Great Connell Priory
Great Connell Priory () is a former house of Augustinian canons dedicated to Saint Mary and Saint David, situated on the eastern side of the River Liffey, in the Barony of Connell just to the south-east of the town of Newbridge, County Kildare, Republic of Ireland. The priory was founded in 1202 as a dependency of Llanthony Priory in Wales by the illegitimate grandson of the Angevin King Henry II, Meiler fitz Henry, who also founded abbeys in Laois, Clonfert and Killaloe. It was located just north of a ford across the River Liffey, known as Connell Ford. It was endowed with extensive lands in the baronies of Connell and Carbury and elsewhere in Ireland. In 1203 the last King of the Ui Faeláin, Faeláin Mac Faeláin, died as a monk there. The founder entered the priory himself in 1216 and died there in 1220. It was a rule of the house that only English monks could be admitted; it does not seem that this rule was always enforced, although, in 1537, when the priory was threat ...

Connell, Washington
Connell () is a city in Franklin County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,441 at the 2020 census. History Prior to 1883 the area now known as Connell was used by ranchers as open range for cattle and horses. The community was established in 1883 as a junction between the Northern Pacific Railroad and the Oregon Railroad and Navigation Company. The new town was called Palouse Junction by Jacob Cornelius Connell, a railroad official and resident. Palouse Junction was unique on the Ainsworth—Spokane line, in that it was not on a river. It was also the gateway to the Palouse via the OR&N's line to Washtucna. Water for trains and for the town was from public wells dug by the railroad. At some time between 1886 and 1900, the town was renamed to Connell. The Northern Pacific Railroad ceased service to the station in 1890, but the Union Pacific Railroad took over the station in 1901, and the town began to grow again. A school district was formed sometime between 19 ...
