Connecticut's 5th Assembly District
The fifth Connecticut House of Representatives district elects one member of the Connecticut House of Representatives. Its current representative is Maryam Khan. The district consists of the northeastern part of the city of Hartford, which includes the Blue Hills, Clay-Arsenal neighborhoods and Downtown Hartford. The district is one of few in Connecticut to have a Black majority population. Owing to this fact, it is one of the safest House districts in Connecticut for Democrats. The Connecticut State House of Representatives is the lower house in the Connecticut General Assembly, the state legislature (United States), state legislature of the U.S. state of Connecticut. Blue Hills, Connecticut
Blue Hills is a community in Hartford County, Connecticut, encompassing the northwest corner of the city of Hartford and the southeast corner of the town of Bloomfield. The Bloomfield portion is listed by the U.S. Census Bureau as a census-designated place (CDP), with a population of 2,762 at the 2020 census. Blue Hills is home to many schools and homes. Including the portion in Hartford, it has roughly 10,000 residents, and has several schools and one university located there. Maryam Khan
Maryam Khan (born 1988) is a Pakistan-born American politician who has been a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives since winning a special election to the 5th House District of Windsor and Hartford in 2022. She is the first Muslim elected to the Connecticut House of Representatives and the second elected to the Connecticut General Assembly after State Senator Saud Anwar.
