Connectedness Locus
In one-dimensional complex dynamics, the connectedness locus of a parameterized family of one-variable holomorphic functions is a subset of the parameter space which consists of those parameters for which the corresponding Julia set is connected. Examples Without doubt, the most famous connectedness locus is the Mandelbrot set, which arises from the family of complex quadratic polynomials : :f_c(z) = z^2+c\, The connectedness loci of the higher-degree unicritical families, : z\mapsto z^d+c\, (where d\geq 3\,) are often called 'Multibrot sets'. For these families, the bifurcation locus In complex dynamics, the bifurcation locus of a parameterized family of one-variable holomorphic functions informally is a locus of those parameterized points for which the dynamical behavior changes drastically under a small perturbation of the pa ... is the boundary of the connectedness locus. Locus (mathematics)
In geometry, a locus (plural: ''loci'') (Latin word for "place", "location") is a set of all points (commonly, a line, a line segment, a curve or a surface), whose location satisfies or is determined by one or more specified conditions.. In other words, the set of the points that satisfy some property is often called the ''locus of a point'' satisfying this property. The use of the singular in this formulation is a witness that, until the end of the 19th century, mathematicians did not consider infinite sets. Instead of viewing lines and curves as sets of points, they viewed them as places where a point may be ''located'' or may move. History and philosophy Until the beginning of the 20th century, a geometrical shape (for example a curve) was not considered as an infinite set of points; rather, it was considered as an entity on which a point may be located or on which it moves. Thus a circle in the Euclidean plane was defined as the ''locus'' of a point that is at a given dist ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Holomorphic Function
In mathematics, a holomorphic function is a complex-valued function of one or more complex variables that is complex differentiable in a neighbourhood of each point in a domain in complex coordinate space . The existence of a complex derivative in a neighbourhood is a very strong condition: it implies that a holomorphic function is infinitely differentiable and locally equal to its own Taylor series (''analytic''). Holomorphic functions are the central objects of study in complex analysis. Though the term ''analytic function'' is often used interchangeably with "holomorphic function", the word "analytic" is defined in a broader sense to denote any function (real, complex, or of more general type) that can be written as a convergent power series in a neighbourhood of each point in its domain. That all holomorphic functions are complex analytic functions, and vice versa, is a major theorem in complex analysis. Holomorphic functions are also sometimes referred to as ''regular fu ... Subset
In mathematics, Set (mathematics), set ''A'' is a subset of a set ''B'' if all Element (mathematics), elements of ''A'' are also elements of ''B''; ''B'' is then a superset of ''A''. It is possible for ''A'' and ''B'' to be equal; if they are unequal, then ''A'' is a proper subset of ''B''. The relationship of one set being a subset of another is called inclusion (or sometimes containment). ''A'' is a subset of ''B'' may also be expressed as ''B'' includes (or contains) ''A'' or ''A'' is included (or contained) in ''B''. A ''k''-subset is a subset with ''k'' elements. The subset relation defines a partial order on sets. In fact, the subsets of a given set form a Boolean algebra (structure), Boolean algebra under the subset relation, in which the join and meet are given by Intersection (set theory), intersection and Union (set theory), union, and the subset relation itself is the Inclusion (Boolean algebra), Boolean inclusion relation. Julia Set
In the context of complex dynamics, a branch of mathematics, the Julia set and the Fatou set are two complementary sets (Julia "laces" and Fatou "dusts") defined from a function. Informally, the Fatou set of the function consists of values with the property that all nearby values behave similarly under repeated iteration of the function, and the Julia set consists of values such that an arbitrarily small perturbation can cause drastic changes in the sequence of iterated function values. Thus the behavior of the function on the Fatou set is "regular", while on the Julia set its behavior is "chaotic". The Julia set of a function is commonly denoted \operatorname(f), and the Fatou set is denoted \operatorname(f). These sets are named after the French mathematicians Gaston Julia and Pierre Fatou whose work began the study of complex dynamics during the early 20th century. Formal definition Let f(z) be a non-constant holomorphic function from the Riemann sphere on ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Connected Space
In topology and related branches of mathematics, a connected space is a topological space that cannot be represented as the union of two or more disjoint non-empty open subsets. Connectedness is one of the principal topological properties that are used to distinguish topological spaces. A subset of a topological space X is a if it is a connected space when viewed as a subspace of X. Some related but stronger conditions are path connected, simply connected, and n-connected. Another related notion is ''locally connected'', which neither implies nor follows from connectedness. Formal definition A topological space X is said to be if it is the union of two disjoint non-empty open sets. Otherwise, X is said to be connected. A subset of a topological space is said to be connected if it is connected under its subspace topology. Some authors exclude the empty set (with its unique topology) as a connected space, but this article does not follow that practice. For a topologi ... Mandelbrot Set
The Mandelbrot set () is the set of complex numbers c for which the function f_c(z)=z^2+c does not diverge to infinity when iterated from z=0, i.e., for which the sequence f_c(0), f_c(f_c(0)), etc., remains bounded in absolute value. This set was first defined and drawn by Robert W. Brooks and Peter Matelski in 1978, as part of a study of Kleinian groups. Afterwards, in 1980, Benoit Mandelbrot obtained high-quality visualizations of the set while working at IBM's Thomas J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, New York. Images of the Mandelbrot set exhibit an elaborate and infinitely complicated boundary that reveals progressively ever-finer recursive detail at increasing magnifications; mathematically, one would say that the boundary of the Mandelbrot set is a ''fractal curve''. The "style" of this recursive detail depends on the region of the set boundary being examined. Mandelbrot set images may be created by sampling the complex numbers and testing, for each ... Complex Quadratic Polynomial
A complex quadratic polynomial is a quadratic polynomial whose coefficients and variable are complex numbers. Properties Quadratic polynomials have the following properties, regardless of the form: *It is a unicritical polynomial, i.e. it has one finite critical point in the complex plane, Dynamical plane consist of maximally 2 basins: basin of infinity and basin of finite critical point ( if finite critical point do not escapes) *It can be postcritically finite, i.e. the orbit of the critical point can be finite, because the critical point is periodic or preperiodic. * It is a unimodal function, * It is a rational function, * It is an entire function. Forms When the quadratic polynomial has only one variable (univariate), one can distinguish its four main forms: * The general form: f(x) = a_2 x^2 + a_1 x + a_0 where a_2 \ne 0 * The factored form used for the logistic map: f_r(x) = r x (1-x) * f_(x) = x^2 +\lambda x which has an indifferent fixed point with multiplier \ ... Multibrot Set
In mathematics, a Multibrot set is the set of values in the complex plane whose absolute value remains below some finite value throughout iterations by a member of the general monic univariate polynomial family of recursions. The name is a portmanteau of multiple and Mandelbrot set. The same can be applied to the Julia set, this being called Multijulia set. : z \mapsto z^d + c . \, where ''d'' ≥ 2. The exponent ''d'' may be further generalized to negative and fractional values. Examples The case of : d = 2\, is the classic Mandelbrot set from which the name is derived. The sets for other values of ''d'' also show fractal images when they are plotted on the complex plane. Each of the examples of various powers ''d'' shown below is plotted to the same scale. Values of ''c'' belonging to the set are black. Values of ''c'' that have unbounded value under recursion, and thus do not belong in the set, are plotted in different colours, that show as contours, depe ... Bifurcation Locus
In complex dynamics, the bifurcation locus of a parameterized family of one-variable holomorphic functions informally is a locus of those parameterized points for which the dynamical behavior changes drastically under a small perturbation of the parameter. Thus the bifurcation locus can be thought of as an analog of the Julia set in parameter space. Without doubt, the most famous example of a bifurcation locus is the boundary of the Mandelbrot set. Parameters in the complement of the bifurcation locus are called J-stable. References * Alexandre E. Eremenko and Mikhail Yu. Critical Point (mathematics)
Critical point is a wide term used in many branches of mathematics. When dealing with functions of a real variable, a critical point is a point in the domain of the function where the function is either not differentiable or the derivative is equal to zero. When dealing with complex variables, a critical point is, similarly, a point in the function's domain where it is either not holomorphic or the derivative is equal to zero. Likewise, for a function of several real variables, a critical point is a value in its domain where the gradient is undefined or is equal to zero. The value of the function at a critical point is a critical value. This sort of definition extends to differentiable maps between and a critical point being, in this case, a point where the rank of the Jacobian matrix is not maximal. It extends further to differentiable maps between differentiable manifolds, as the points where the rank of the Jacobian matrix decreases. In this case, critical points are al ... Complex Analysis
Complex analysis, traditionally known as the theory of functions of a complex variable, is the branch of mathematical analysis that investigates Function (mathematics), functions of complex numbers. It is helpful in many branches of mathematics, including algebraic geometry, number theory, analytic combinatorics, applied mathematics; as well as in physics, including the branches of hydrodynamics, thermodynamics, and particularly quantum mechanics. By extension, use of complex analysis also has applications in engineering fields such as nuclear engineering, nuclear, aerospace engineering, aerospace, mechanical engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering. As a differentiable function of a complex variable is equal to its Taylor series (that is, it is Analyticity of holomorphic functions, analytic), complex analysis is particularly concerned with analytic functions of a complex variable (that is, holomorphic functions).
