Connally ISD
Connally Independent School District is a public school district based in the northernmost part of Waco, Texas (USA). In addition to a small portion of north Waco, Connally ISD serves most of the city of Lacy-Lakeview, the community of Elm Mott, and parts of Bellmead. History The district was formed in 1950–51 by the merger of the Lakeview and Elm Mott school districts. The name comes from the former James Connally Air Force Base in the district (now the flagship campus of the Texas State Technical College System) and carries over to the school mascot, the Cadet. James Connally Air Force Base
James Connally Air Force Base was a United States Air Force base located north of Waco, Texas. After its closure in 1968, the airport reopened as TSTC Waco Airport. History World War II The airport opened May 5, 1942 as Waco Army Air Field and was the headquarters of the Army Air Force Central Instructors' School during World War II. It was deactivated after the war in 1945 but was reactivated in 1948 as a pilot training base under the Air Training Command. Air Training Command Waco Field was renamed for Colonel James T. Connally who had been killed in Japan in 1945. The airport was initially called Connally Air Force Base but the name evolved to also include his first name. Elm Mott is an unincorporated community in McLennan County, Texas, United States. It is located near the intersection of Interstate 35 and Farm to Market Road 308, eight miles north of Waco. Elm Mott is part of the Waco Metropolitan Statistical Area. Geography Elm Mott is located at approximately 31°40'18" North, 97°5'58" West (31.672, 97.099). History The area was settled shortly after the Civil War. The community was known as Geneva until residents applied for a post office in 1872. As there was already a Geneva, the name Elm Mott was chosen, for a nearby elm grove. By the 1890s, the community had approximately 150 residents. Its population grew to 247 by 1900 and 300 by 1914.
