John Connally
John Bowden Connally Jr. (February 27, 1917June 15, 1993) was an American politician. He served as the 39th governor of Texas and as the 61st United States secretary of the Treasury. He began his career as a Democrat and later became a Republican in 1973. Born in Floresville, Texas, Connally pursued a legal career after graduating from the University of Texas at Austin. During World War II, he served on the staff of James Forrestal and Dwight D. Eisenhower before transferring to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. After the war, he became an aide to Senator Lyndon B. Johnson. When Johnson assumed the vice presidency in 1961, he convinced President John F. Kennedy to appoint Connally to the position of United States Secretary of the Navy. Connally left the Kennedy Administration in December 1961 to run for Governor of Texas, and he held that position from 1963 to 1969. Nellie Connally
Idanell Brill Connally (February 24, 1919 – September 1, 2006) was the First Lady of Texas from 1963 to 1969. She was the wife of John Connally, who served as Governor of Texas and later as Secretary of the Treasury. She and her husband were passengers in the Presidential limousine carrying United States President John F. Kennedy when he was assassinated in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963. Tom Connally
Thomas Terry Connally (August 19, 1877October 28, 1963) was an American politician, who represented Texas in both the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives, as a member of the Democratic Party. He served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1917 to 1929, and in the U.S. Senate from 1929 to 1953. Connally led the opposition to federal anti-lynching legislation in the late 1930s, filibustering the Anti-Lynching Bill of 1937. He advocated in favor of Jim Crow laws, for example opposing equal education for black people. In the House, Connally was a staunch Wilsonian Democrat who campaigned in favor of the League of Nations, and the World Court. In the Senate, he chaired the Committee on Foreign Relations from 1941, giving strong support to President Franklin Roosevelt's anti—German and anti-Japanese policies. Wayne Wright Connally (March 19, 1923 – December 20, 2000) was an American politician. He served as a Democratic member for the 58th district of the Texas House of Representatives. He also served as a member for the 21st district of the Texas Senate. Life and career Born in Floresville, Texas, the son of Lela and John Connally Sr. His brother was John Connally, later governor of Texas. He graduated from Floresville High School in 1940 and attended the University of Texas at Austin. Connally Edozien (born 26 June 1978) is a Nigerian former professional footballer who played as a forward. Playing career Youth and College Edozien was born in Lagos, Nigeria, but spent much of his youth in London. He came to the United States in 1997 to attend Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, where he was an All-American and earned Florida Sun Conference Player of the Year in 1999 and 2000. Connally Findlay Trigg (September 18, 1847 – April 23, 1907) was a United States Congressman from Virginia and a Confederate soldier during the American Civil War. He was born in Abingdon, the county seat of Washington County, Virginia. He attended the common schools, studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1870 and commenced practice in Abingdon. He was the son of Dr. Daniel Trigg of Abingdon and Anna Munford Tompkins, who was a lineal descendant of William Byrd of Westover and Robert "King" Carter. Connally Findlay Trigg (March 8, 1810 – April 25, 1880) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee and the United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee. Education and career Born on March 8, 1810, in Abingdon, Virginia, Trigg read law in 1833. He entered private practice in Abingdon until 1856. He was a town councilman for Abingdon starting in 1835. He was clerk of the Washington County, Virginia Court from 1838 to 1852. Trigg was elected to the Virginia Constitutional Convention of 1850, one of four chosen for the delegate district including his home Washington County and Smyth and Wythe Counties. Connally Building
The ''Connally Building'' is located at 54 Peachtree Street (corner of Alabama Street) in Downtown Atlanta, adjacent to the Underground Atlanta retail center. It is a work of architect William Lee Stoddart, completed in 1916. The building has been so extensively renovated that it bears little resemblance to the original design, other than the terra cotta façade on the lower stories. This was originally a six-story office building with a terracotta facade, which replaced an earlier Connally Building on the site. In 1990, eleven stories were added and it was converted into a hotel. Connally High School is a public high school located in Waco, Texas, United States and classified as a 4A school by the UIL. It is part of the Connally Independent School District located in northern McLennan County. In 2015, the school was rated " Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency. History Connally Independent School District was created in the 1950−51 school year when the already established Elm Mott School District consolidated with Lakeview School District. Connally Independent School District is a public school district based in the northernmost part of Waco, Texas (USA). In addition to a small portion of north Waco, Connally ISD serves most of the city of Lacy-Lakeview, the community of Elm Mott, and parts of Bellmead.
