Congaree Golf Club
Congaree is a private golf course in the eastern United States, located in South Carolina in Jasper County outside of Ridgeland in unincorporated Gillisonville. General information Situated on a historic 18th-century estate, and surrounded by over 2,000 acres of lakes and longleaf pine forests in South Carolina's Lowcountry, architect Tom Fazio designed the championship course to fit in with its natural surroundings. Congaree was named ''Golf Digest'' best new private course for 2018, as well as being named the best golf course built during the decade of 2010–19. The club was ranked 39th in ''Golf Digests America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses 2021–2022. With the 2021 RBC Canadian Open's cancellation due to logistical challenges related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Congaree was selected to host that week's PGA Tour event. Gillisonville, South Carolina
Gillisonville is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Jasper County, in the U.S. state of South Carolina. It was first listed as a CDP in the 2020 census with a population of 183. History A post office called Gillisonville was in operation from 1840 until 1927. During the Civil War, Gillisonville was nearly obliterated by order of Maj. Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman. Gillisonville Baptist Church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Ridgeland, SC
Ridgeland is a town in Jasper and Beaufort counties, South Carolina, United States. The population was 3,749 at the 2020 census, a 7.1% decrease from 2010. It has been the county seat of Jasper County since the county's formation in 1912. As defined by the U.S. Census Bureau, Ridgeland is included within the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton-Beaufort metropolitan area. Ridgeland is home to the Ridgeland Correctional Institution, a medium-security prison operated by the South Carolina Department of Corrections. Ridgeland was originally known as "Gopher Hill" in 1894, derived from the gopher tortoise, which is indigenous to the area. Robert C. McNair (January 1, 1937 – November 23, 2018) was an American businessman, philanthropist, and the owner of a National Football League team, the Houston Texans. The Presidents Cup is a series of men's golf matches between a team representing the United States and an International Team representing the rest of the world minus Europe. Europe competes against the United States in a similar but considerably older event, the Ryder Cup. The Presidents Cup has been held biennially since 1994. Initially it was held in even-numbered years, with the Ryder Cup being held in odd numbered years. However, the cancellation of the 2001 Ryder Cup due to the September 11 attacks pushed both tournaments back a year, and the Presidents Cup was then held in odd-numbered years.
