Condado (horse)
Condado (Foaled 1934-Death Date Unknown) was a champion racehorse in Puerto Rico who was best known for his statistical achievements on the track which included having 152 career victories and at his peak a winning streak of 43 straight victories. Background Condado was chestnut colt foaled in 1934 in Potrero by breeder Teodoro Viera. He would be owned by José Coll Vidal the owner of other legendary Puerto Rican champions Cofresi and Camarero, and trained by Pablo Suárez. He was foaled by American dam Purupupu whose father was a French bred named Allumeur while her dam Olga Virginia was a US-bred horse. His sire was an American stallion named Gadstick who descended from Ben Brush a Hall of Fame champion racehorse who won the 1896 Kentucky Derby. Camarero (1951–1956) was a Thoroughbred racehorse that was raised and raced in Puerto Rico. He was the winner of 73 races, including the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing in Puerto Rico. Camarero is notable for setting the current world record of the most Winning streak (sports), consecutive wins for a Thoroughbred racehorse at 56 in a series of races between April 1953 and August 1955. Background Cameraro was sired by Thirteen who was a son of 1938 Travers Stakes winner Thanksgiving. His name translates to "waiter" in Spanish. Ben Brush
Ben Brush (1893–1918) was a champion American Thoroughbred racehorse who won the 1896 Kentucky Derby. Walter Vosburgh, for whom the Vosburgh Stakes is named, said Bramble was "a breed as tough as pine nuts." On May 6, 1896, Bramble and Roseville's son Ben Brush was the first horse to win the Kentucky Derby at its modern distance of 1¼ miles. (Since its inception in 1875, the Derby had been staged over 1½ miles, the length of the original Derby at Epsom Downs in England.) It was the 22nd running of the Derby and the first to drape a blanket of white and pink roses over the shoulders of the victor.
