Conceição Evaristo
Maria da Conceição Evaristo de Brito (born 29 November 1946) is a Brazilian writer. Her work is marked by her life experiences as an Afro-Brazilian woman, which she calls ''escrevivência''—a portmanteau of ''escrita'' (writing) and ''vivência'' (life experience). She was born into a humble family and is the second oldest of 9 siblings, being the first in her household to earn a university degree. She helped her mother and aunt with washing clothes and deliveries, while studying. In the 1970s, she moved to Rio de Janeiro, where she passed a contest, starting to write only in the 1990s. She completed her master's degree in the mid-1990s and her doctorate in the early 2010s. Brazilian Academy Of Letters
The Academia Brasileira de Letras (ABL) ( English: ''Brazilian Academy of Letters'') is a Brazilian literature, literary non-profit society established at the end of the 19th century. The first president, Machado de Assis, declared its foundation on Tuesday, 15 December 1896, with the by-laws being passed on Thursday, 28 January 1897. On Tuesday, 20 July of the same year, the academy started its operation. According to its statutes, it is the pre-eminent Portuguese council for matters pertaining to the Portuguese language. Afro-Brazilians ( pt, afro-brasileiros; ) are Brazilians who have predominantly African ancestry (see " preto"). Most members of another group of people, multiracial Brazilians or ''pardos'', may also have a range of degree of African ancestry. The Caribbean Philosophical Association (CPA) is a philosophical organization founded in 2002 at the Center for Caribbean Thought at the University of the West Indies, in Mona, Jamaica. Carlos Diegues, also known as Cacá Diegues (born May 19, 1940), is a Brazilian film director. He was born in Maceió, Alagoas, and is best known as a member of the Cinema Novo movement. He is popularly known for his unconventional, yet intriguing film techniques among other film producers of the Cinema Novo movement. Diegues is also widely known for his dynamic use visuals, ideas, plots, themes, and other cinematic techniques.
