Contempo Quartet
The ConTempo Quartet is a string quartet founded in Bucharest in 1995 and long-resident in Galway, Ireland, which has held national and regional appointments in Ireland, and performed in a wide range of events in Romania, Spain, Ireland and elsewhere. History The quartet was formed in Bucharest in 1995, by a couple, Adrian Mantu and Andreea Banclu, and Ingrid Nicola and Bogdan Sofei, all attending the same university. Mantu and Banclu had met in a school for gifted musicians when aged 15 and 17, and were a couple, while Nicola and Sofei became a couple while the group were performing in an early concert together in Vienna in 1995. marrying in 2000. While the members of the quartet were studying in Madrid, they considered applying for a multi-year musical residence in Galway, Ireland. Galway (city)
Galway ( ; ga, Gaillimh, ) is a city in the West of Ireland, in the province of Connacht, which is the county town of County Galway. String Quartet
The term string quartet can refer to either a type of musical composition or a group of four people who play them. Many composers from the mid-18th century onwards wrote string quartets. The associated musical ensemble consists of two violinists, a violist, and a cellist. The string quartet was developed into its present form by composers such as Franz Xaver Richter, and Joseph Haydn, whose works in the 1750s established the ensemble as a group of four more-or-less equal partners. Since Haydn the string quartet has been considered a prestigious form; writing for four instruments with broadly similar characteristics both constrains and tests a composer. The Vanbrugh
The Vanbrugh, often styled The Vanbrugh and Friends and previously the RTÉ Vanbrugh Quartet, is an Irish classical musical group. The resident string quartet to Raidió TeilifÃs Éireann, Ireland's national broadcasting service, until 2013, and collectively artists-in-residence to University College Cork, the Quartet members were also founders of the West Cork Chamber Music Festival. Organisation and history The group comprises Keith Pascoe on violins, Simon Aspell on viola and Christopher Marwood with cello, and they add 1-2 members for each performance.
