Comstock Independent School District is a public school district based in the community of Comstock, Texas, United States. The district consists of a single K-12 school located in Comstock. In addition to Comstock, the district also serves the census designated places of Amistad and Box Canyon, as well as the unincorporated areas of Juno, Langtry, and Pandale. In 2007, the Texas State Energy Conservation Office awards Comstock ISD money due to the colonias served by the district. Comstock, Texas
Comstock is an unincorporated community located in Val Verde County, Texas, United States, about 20 miles northwest of Del Rio on U.S. 90. It is the town nearest to Seminole Canyon, which has been a site of human habitation for 9,000 years. In 2010, Comstock had a population of 475 residents. History Comstock was founded around 1883 on the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway as the line drove west toward El Paso. Although first platted as Sotol City, it was later named for John Comstock, a railroad dispatcher. The town was located near a natural lake, which was used for the town's water supply, but is today only intermittent. The town was granted a post office in 1888, but its remote location and limited resources kept the town from growing quickly. Comstock was at the height of its activity between 1888 and 1910, when the Deaton Stage Line operated between the town's railroad depot and the city of Ozona some 60 mi (100 km) north. Juno Common School District
Juno Common School District No. 4 was a school district formerly based in Juno, Texas. It was a one room schoolhouse. Clippingfrom Newspapers.com. History A building with segregated schools for black students and white students - with 29 and 88 students, respectively, was active in the town in 1901. The school for black students was on a part time basis. In 1964 the student enrollment was 18. Circa 1976 the student body was typically around 7-13. By 1976 it was the only common school district remaining in Val Verde County. At the time some students took school buses and some students used other means of transportation if they came from isolated areas. In 1980 there were a total of four students. The sole teacher used the World Book Encyclopedia in her instruction. It operated until 1992, when it had an enrollment of eight, with two of the pupils being the children of the teacher. Del Rio is a city and the county seat of Val Verde County in southwestern Texas, United States. The city is 152 miles west of San Antonio. As of 2020, Del Rio had a population of 34,673. The ''Del Rio News-Herald'' was a newspaper published in Del Rio, Texas, covering Val Verde County. The publication's origins date back to 1884, but the paper took on its current name after a consolidation of two separate titles in 1929. It was owned by Southern Newspapers Inc. and published Tuesday through Friday afternoons and on Sunday morning. Its final issue was published on November 18, 2020. Pandale is a remote desert hamlet in Val Verde County, Texas, United States. Its current population is smaller than in some previous years. It has been used as a starting point for canoeing and kayaking expeditions on the Pecos River. There are no businesses or services in Pandale. Location and population Pandale is located in Val Verde County at a Pecos River crossing, four miles south of the conjunction of Texas Ranch to Market Road 1024 and the Langtry-Pandale Road, at which point the Pandale Church stands. Pandale can be reached by traveling north from Langtry on the Langtry-Pandale County Road, an unpaved caliche county road. The hamlet is located at a bridge crossing on the Pecos River. Langtry, Texas
Langtry is an unincorporated community in Val Verde County, Texas, United States. The community is notable as the place where Judge Roy Bean, the "Law West of the Pecos", had his saloon and practiced law. History Langtry was originally established in 1882 by the Southern Pacific Railroad as a grading camp called Eagle Nest. It was later renamed for George Langtry, an engineer and foreman, who supervised the immigrant Chinese work crews building the railroad in the area. Roy Bean arrived soon after completion of the railroad, and set up a tent saloon on company land. He later built a wooden structure for his saloon, which he called The Jersey Lilly after the well-known British actress Lillie Langtry. She was a native of the island of Jersey.
