Compton Building
The Compton Building is a historic building at 159, 161-175 Devonshire Street and 18-20 Arch Street in Boston, Massachusetts. The eleven-story Classical Revival office tower was built in 1902–03 to a design by Henry Forbes Bigelow of Winslow & Bigelow. Henry Forbes Bigelow
Henry Forbes Bigelow (May 12, 1867 – August 12, 1929) was an American architect, best known for his work with the firm of Bigelow & Wadsworth in Boston, Massachusetts. He was noted as an architect of civic, commercial and domestic buildings. In an obituary, his contemporary William T. Aldrich wrote that "Mr. Bigelow probably contributed more to the creation of charming and distinguished house interiors than any one person of his time." Numerous buildings designed by Bigelow and his associates have been listed on the United States National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Early life Bigelow was born in Clinton, Massachusetts to Henry Nelson Bigelow (1839–1907) and Clarissa Nichols (née Forbes) Bigelow (1841–1876). His father was the managing agent of the Bigelow Carpet Company of Clinton, which had been founded by his father and uncle. His great uncle, Erastus Brigham Bigelow, invented the carpet loom. Bradlee, Winslow & Wetherell
Bradlee, Winslow & Wetherell (1872-1888) was an architecture firm in Boston, Massachusetts. Its principals were Nathaniel Jeremiah Bradlee (1829-1888), Walter Thacher Winslow (1843-1909) and George Homans Wetherell (1854-1930). Most of the firm's work was local to Boston and New England, with a few commissions as far afield as Seattle and Kansas City. The firm is variously credited. Nathaniel Bradlee had run a thriving solo practice in Boston since 1854. In 1872 Bradlee promoted Winslow to partner, creating Bradlee & Winslow for 12 years. (Bradlee appears to retain solo credit for some projects afterward, for example Danvers State Hospital.) In 1884 Wetherell was also promoted, creating Bradlee, Winslow & Wetherell. Bradlee died in 1888. Winslow & Wetherell then formed their partnership as Bradlee's successor firm. 200px, Entrance to the International Trust Company Building The International Trust Company Building is an historic office building at 39-47 Milk Street in Boston, Massachusetts. The nine-story masonry-clad building was built in 1892–93 to a design by William Gibbons Preston. It is an early Boston example of the Beaux Arts style, and is structurally an early prototype of the use of skeleton framing. It was enlarged in 1906, to a design by Woodbury & Leighton. It was connected by internal connections to the adjacent Compton Building in 1961, when the two buildings were under common ownership. The building was designated a Boston Landmark by the Boston Landmarks Commission in 1978. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
