Light Rail Transit (Singapore)
The Light Rail Transit (LRT) is a series of localised automated guideway transit systems acting as feeder services to the heavy rail Mass Rapid Transit, which together forms the core of Singapore's rail transport services. The first LRT line was opened in 1999 and the system has since expanded to three lines, each serving a public housing estate, namely Bukit Panjang LRT line, Sengkang LRT line and Punggol LRT line. Trains on these lines have at least one station interchange link to the MRT. An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. They are also useful within larger stations where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be provided from opposite sides of the same platform thereby simplifying transfers between the two tracks. Compassvale is a neighbourhood of Sengkang New Town, and is located between Rivervale and Anchorvale. Compassvale encompasses the Sengkang Town Centre. History There used to be a few low-rise flats along Punggol Road with a defunct road named Buangkok South Farmway 1 leading into the estate. Sengkang (, ta, செங்காங்) is a planning area and residential town located in the North-East Region of Singapore. Compassvale Bus Interchange, located opposite Sengkang Bus Interchange, is a bus interchange in Sengkang, Singapore, built to increase the capacity of the existing interchange. It is bordered by Compassvale Road, Sengkang East Way and Sengkang Square. Despite its name, it is not located near the LRT station with the same name, but is actually named after the road which it is located at, Compassvale Road near Sengkang MRT/LRT station. History On 24 November 2014, LTA officially announced the expansion of the interchange to accommodate future bus services under the Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP) Scheme as Sengkang Bus Interchange does not have enough parking spaces for more services. Sengkang MRT/LRT station is a Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and Light Rail Transit (LRT) interchange station in Sengkang, Singapore. It is an interchange between the North East line (NEL) and Sengkang LRT (SKLRT). Along with Buangkok station, it is one of the two MRT stations located within the Sengkang planning area. The LRT station opened on 18 January 2003 along with the other East loop stations on the SKLRT, with the NEL station opening later on 20 June.
