Back In Time (Linux Software)
Back In Time is a backup application for Linux. It has versions that integrate favorably in GNOME and KDE SC 4 and is available directly from the repositories of many Linux distributions. Released under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL), it is free software. Back In Time uses rsync as backend and has the characteristic feature of using hard links for files which are identical in snapshots at different times, thus using disk space just once for files that remained unchanged. It is possible to use several backup profiles, e.g. for backups on different hard disks and also to create schedules. Symbolic links can be backed up, both absolute and relative ones, but hard links cannot be treated as such due to the used backup method. DirSync Pro is an open-source file synchronization and backup utility for Windows, Linux and macOS. ''DirSync Pro'' is based on the program ''Directory Synchronize (DirSync)'', which was first released in February 2003 by Elias Gerber. He subsequently developed it with Frank Gerbig and T. Cobian Backup
Cobian Backup was a free, donation-supported backup software for Microsoft Windows. It is written in Delphi by Luis Cobian of Umeå University. History Cobian Backup was originally released in 2000. The program was later rewritten and released under version 7. The next version (version 8) was released in 2006. Its source code was later released under the Mozilla Public License in late January 2007. However, with version 9 the author of Cobian Backup decided to switch back to a completely closed source model. Older versions will remain Open Source forever, as the release of the program under the Mozilla Public License cannot be revoked. Development and support by the original author has been discontinued with version 11.2.0.582 and the source code has since been sold off. cpio is a general file archiver utility and its associated file format. It is primarily installed on Unix-like computer operating systems. The software utility was originally intended as a tape archiving program as part of the Programmer's Workbench (PWB/UNIX), and has been a component of virtually every Unix operating system released thereafter. Parchive (a portmanteau of parity archive, and formally known as Parity Volume Set Specification) is an erasure code system that produces par files for checksum verification of data integrity, with the capability to perform data recovery operations that can repair or regenerate corrupted or missing data. Box Backup is an open-source, completely automatic online backup system. The client software sends the backup data to the server. The data is encrypted using the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol and is also protected by a further layer of on-disk encryption.
