Companhia Itaú de Transportes Aéreos was a Brazilian airline founded in 1947. In 1955 it was sold to Transportes Aéreos Nacional, which incorporated the airline the following year. History Itaú was founded on September 30, 1947 as a subsidiary of the producer of cement Itaú and dedicated exclusively to the transportation of cargo. Operations started in 1948. In October 1955, suffering from the losses of some aircraft due to accidents, Itaú was sold to Transportes Aéreos Nacional. In 1956 Nacional incorporated the airline. Consolidated PBY Catalina
The Consolidated PBY Catalina is a flying boat and amphibious aircraft that was produced in the 1930s and 1940s. In Canadian service it was known as the Canso. It was one of the most widely used seaplanes of World War II. Catalinas served with every branch of the United States Armed Forces and in the air forces and navies of many other nations. The last military PBYs served until the 1980s. Eurico de Aguiar Salles Airport , formerly called Goiabeiras Airport after the neighborhood where it is located, is the airport serving Vitória, Brazil. Since 9 May 2006, it is named after Eurico de Aguiar Salles (1910–1959) a local politician and law professor. It is operated by Zurich Airport Brasil. History The airport was built in the 1930s and in 1943 a concrete runway and a passenger terminal were built. In 2005 renovation works started at the airport. Projects included a passenger terminal located on a second runway and a control tower. The old terminal was converted into an international cargo terminal. The construction costed initially BRL 300 million, was paralyzed several times in 2006 and 2007 leaving construction virtually abandoned and delayed by overpricing and diversion of funds. Corumbá International Airport is the airport serving Corumbá, Brazil. During a transitional period, the airport is jointly operated by Infraero and AENA. History Corumbá International Airport is the second most important airport of Mato Grosso do Sul, just behind Campo Grande International Airport. Built on a site of 290 ha, it has capacity for medium size planes as a Boeing 737 and Fokker 100. The airport was one of the first to be built outside Brazilian main centers. On September 8, 1933, Syndicato Condor established services between Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Corumbá and Cuiabá with wheeled tri-engine Junkers 52. This service was a major break-through because previously an overland journey to Mato Grosso took several days. Curtiss-Wright C-46 Commando
The Curtiss C-46 Commando is a twin-engine transport aircraft derived from the Curtiss CW-20 pressurised high-altitude airliner design. Early press reports used the name "Condor III" but the Commando name was in use by early 1942 in company publicity. It was used as a military transport during World War II by the United States Army Air Forces and also the U.S. Navy/Marine Corps, which called it R5C. The C-46 served in a similar role to its Douglas-built counterpart, the C-47 Skytrain, but it was not as extensively produced as the latter. After World War II, a few surplus C-46 aircraft were briefly used in their original role as passenger airliners but the glut of surplus C-47s dominated the marketplace and the C-46 was soon relegated to cargo duty. The type continued in U.S. Air Force service in a secondary role until 1968.
