Community High School District 117 is a 9-12 high school district based in Lake Villa, Lake County, Illinois that serves both the city where it is based and the village of Antioch, Illinois, alongside Old Mill Creek and Lindenhurst. District 117 is composed of two high schools: Antioch Community High School, which is located in the city of its namesake; and Lakes Community High School, which is, in turn, located in Lake Villa. The district superintendent is Dr. Jeff Feucht. Jori Bowen oversees Lakes as principal, Eric Hamilton serves as the principal of Antioch. Lake Villa is a village in Lake County, Illinois United States. Per the 2020 census, the population was 8,741. Lake Villa lies within Lake Villa Township and about 50 miles north of Chicago and is part of the United States Census Bureau's Chicago combined statistical area (CSA). Antioch Community High School
Antioch Community High School, Antioch, or ACHS, is a public four-year high school located in Antioch, Illinois, a far north suburb of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. It is part of Community High School District 117, which also includes Lakes Community High School, a school that opened its doors and formed the district in 2004. History ACHS was built in 1915 at 1133 Main Street, where it has remained since then. Though the original building was renovated in the late 1990s to make room for new facilities, it has undergone numerous additions and a name change throughout its history. ACHS was originally named Antioch Township High School when it was founded in 1915. Lakes Community High School, or LCHS, is a public four-year high school located in Lake Villa, Illinois, a northern suburb of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. It is part of Community High School District 117, which also includes Antioch Community High School. History Lakes Community High School opened to 600 freshman and sophomore students on August 23, 2004. Voters approved the bond referendum to construct a second high school for District 117 in 2000. Construction began in 2001 on both the high school and the Antioch-Lake Villa Township Center, which contains offices and meeting space for district operations. Work continued on schedule and under budget until the school's completion in the summer of 2004. In the spring of 2003, the board of education selected the school's name, mascot (Eagles) and colors (royal blue, white, red) from suggestions made by community members. Lindenhurst is a village in Lake County, Illinois, United States. Per the 2020 census, the population was 14,406. Lindenhurst lies within Lake Villa Township. History The Village of Lindenhurst lies within the Valparaiso moraine from the most recent Ice Age. The area is rich in lakes and swamp land; it was inhabited by the Potawatomi Indian tribe, who mixed agriculture with hunting and fishing. The rich soil ultimately attracted European farmers. An expedition led by Colbee Benton in the 1830s was followed by treaties by which the Potawatomi, the Sauk and the Blackhawk Tribes agreed to leave the area. Most Euro-American settlers came from the east coast, the first recorded being the Pennsylvanian Noer Potter. There were also a number of early Scottish, German and English arrivals.
