The Committee on Health, Labour, and Social Affairs is one of the ten permanent committees of the Pan-African Parliament. It takes the following actions: * Consider strategies and programmes for the improvement of the lives of African peoples. * Consider issues relating to regional and international cooperation in strategic planning and implementation of social development and health policies and programs. Chairperson of the Committee is Hon Dr Khauhelo Deborah Raditapole from Lesotho. Deputy Chairperson of the Committee Hon Dr Aribot Belly from Guinea. Pan-African Parliament
The Pan-African Parliament (PAP), also known as the African Parliament, is the legislative body of the African Union. It held its inaugural session in March 2004. The Parliament exercises oversight, and has advisory and consultative powers, having lasting for the first five years. Initially the seat of the Pan-African Parliament was in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, but was later moved to Midrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. The goal in establishing the parliament was creating a space where people from all states of Africa could meet, deliberate, and pass some policy on issues that affect the entire continent of Africa. The Parliament is composed of five members per member state that have ratified the Protocol establishing it, including at least one woman per Member State. Khauhelo Deborah Raditapole
Khauhelo Deborah Raditapole was a member of the Pan-African Parliament from Lesotho. Raditapole was born in Maseru on 7 August 1938. She had her earlier education in Lesotho, but obtained her Pharmacy degree from Lvov Medical School at Ukraine and completed her higher studies in the US. She worked in a teaching hospital in Tanzania for 10 years as she was denied entry to Lesotho. She returned to Lesotho in 1987 at the invitation of the then Principal Secretary for Health Tom Thabane. She started her political career as a member of the Mabote constituency in 1993 from Basotho Congress Party (BCP). She was deputed the Minister of Health initially and transferred to Ministry of Natural Resources. When she was transferred again in 1996, she resigned her post as a minister, the first of its kind in Lesotho. Ahmed Mohamed Hassan
Ahmed Mohamed Hassan (born 1945.) is a Djiboutian politician. He is a member of the People's Rally for Progress (RPP) and has served in the National Assembly of Djibouti as well as the Pan-African Parliament. Political career At the roundtable talks in Paris regarding Djibouti's independence in 1977, Hassan was the spokesman of the Front for the Liberation of the Somali Coast. A doctor by profession, he was a member of the National Assembly of Djibouti from 1977 to 1982. He was later Technical Adviser to the Ministry of Health from May 1994 to April 1996.
