Eli Sharvit
Aluf Eli Sharvit is a general in the Israel Defense Forces who served as the Commander of the Israeli Navy between 2016 and 2021. Life and career Sharvit was born on kibbutz Sde Boker and grew up in Beersheba. He was one of three children born to Yosef and Esther Sharvit, History of the Jews in Morocco, Moroccan Jewish immigrants to Israel. He attended the Makif Alef school in Beersheba. He is married to Eti and the father of three children. Sharvit was conscripted into the Israel Defense Forces in 1985 and joined the Israeli Navy. He remained in the navy as an officer after his mandatory service. Sharvit served in numerous positions and later headed the navy's missile boat fleet in 2009. Michael (Yomi) Barkai ( he, מיכאל ברקאי; January 26, 1935 – May 28, 1999) was the Commander of the Israeli Navy, a recipient of the Medal of Distinguished Service for his command of the missile ships during the Yom Kippur War. Biography Childhood Barkai was born in Bucharest, the capital of Romania, as a first born of Moshe and Rachel Borsok. As a boy, he experienced the persecution and violence directed against the local Jewish community by the National Legionary State and the Ion Antonescu regime. Ram Rothberg
Aluf Ram Rothberg ( he, רם רוטברג; born February 5, 1964) is an admiral in the Israel Defense Forces who was the head of the Israel Navy. Service history Rothberg commanded the Flotilla 13 special forces unit from 2001 to 2004 and presided over some of its most notable operations, such as the raid on the Karin A arms smuggling ship in January 2002. He later served as the Chief of Naval Intelligence during the Second Lebanon War and was reprimanded by then- Chief of Staff Dan Halutz for the 14 July 2006 attack on the Israeli corvette INS ''Hanit''. An Iranian-supplied C-802 anti-ship missile fired by Hezbollah hit the warship, whose crew was apparently unaware that the Lebanese group possessed such weapons. Eliezer (Eli) Marom ("Chayni") ( he, אליעזר "אלי" מרום "צ'ייני", born in 1955, Sde Eliezer, Upper Galilee, Israel) is the former Commander of the Israeli Navy serving from 2007–2011. David Ben-Besht
David Ben-Besht ( he, דוד בן בעש"ט; born 1950) is a general in the Israel Defense Forces. Until 2007 he was commander of the Israeli Navy. Biography David Ben-Besht was born in Israel. He received a B.A. in Economics and Business Management from the University of Haifa and studied at the United States Marine Corps College for a year in the early 1970s. Yedidya Ya'ari ( he, ידידיה יערי, born 30 June 1947) was the commander of the Israeli Navy from 2000 to 2004. He was succeeded by David Ben Ba'ashat. Alex Tal (Hebrew: אלכס טל; born 1946 USSR) was the Commander of the Israeli Navy. Naval career Alex Tal made aliyah from the Soviet Union in 1964 and enlisted in the Israeli Navy. Avraham Ben-Shoshan
Avraham Ben-Shoshan (Hebrew: אברהם בן-שושן; born 1940) was an Aluf in the IDF, and served as the Commander of the Israeli Navy in the years 1985–1989. Biography Ben-Shoshan was born in Turkey to a Jewish family that made aliyah when he was six. The family settled in Kfar Saba. Zeev Almog ( he, זאב אלמוג; also written Ze'ev Almog; born 1 February 1935), was the Commander In Chief (C.I.C.) of the Israeli Navy from 1979 to 1985. Benjamin Telem ( he, בנימין תלם) (1928 – 16 June 2008) was the 9th Commander of the Israeli Navy (1972–1976). Early life and education Born Benjamin Blumenthal in Dessau, Germany, in 1928, Telem immigrated to Haifa, during the Mandate era, as a child in 1933.
