Commander Adama (original Battlestar Galactica)
Commander Adama is a fictional character in the 1978 movie and subsequent ABC television series '' Battlestar Galactica'' and its continuation series, ''Galactica 1980''. Adama is the commander of the great military vessel Battlestar ''Galactica'', commander of the refugee fleet, and military commander of the evacuees of the Twelve Colonies. He is also the spiritual leader of the surviving colonists, leading the quest for Earth. Adama was played by Canadian actor Lorne Greene of '' Bonanza'' fame. In the 2004 re-imagined series a similar character, named William Adama and nicknamed "Husker", commands the ''Galactica''. William Adama is portrayed by actor Edward James Olmos. Adamah (Biblical Hebrew : אדמה) is a word, translatable as ground or earth, which occurs in the Genesis creation narrative. The etymological link between the word ''adamah'' and the word ''adam'' is used to reinforce the teleological link between humankind and the ground, emphasising both the way in which man was created to cultivate the world, and how he originated from the "dust of the ground". Dirk Benedict (born Dirk Niewoehner; March 1, 1945) is an American film, television and stage actor, philosopher and author. He is best known for playing the characters Lieutenant Starbuck in the original ''Battlestar Galactica'' film and television series and Lieutenant Templeton "Faceman" Peck in ''The A-Team'' television series. Lieutenant Starbuck of the Colonial Service, played by Dirk Benedict, is a fictional character in the 1978 science fiction television series ''Battlestar Galactica.'' Kobol
"Kobol's Last Gleaming" is the two-part first-season finale of the reimagined ''Battlestar Galactica'' television series. In the first part, the human fleet discovers the abandoned planet Kobol, the mythical birthplace of humanity, who left here and founded the Twelve Colonies of Kobol elsewhere in the galaxy. A survey team is stranded there by Cylons while President Laura Roslin convinces Starbuck to disobey orders and retrieve an artifact called the Arrow of Apollo. In the second part, Commander William Adama stages a military coup and places Roslin in '' Galactica''s brig. Starbuck retrieves the Arrow and discovers that Boomer, still on ''Galactica'', is a Cylon.
