Comics Poetry
Comics poetry or poetry comics is a hybrid creative form that combines aspects of comics and poetry. It draws from the syntax of comics, images, panels, speech balloons, and so on, in order to produce a literary or artistic experience akin to that of traditional poetry. History Comics poetry traces its origins to illuminated manuscripts, graphic novels, concrete poetry, and poets who combined images and text such as Kenneth Patchen. In the mid-2000s, a number of artist-poets began publishing independently of one another, referring to what they were doing expressly as comics poetry. According to artist and scholar Tamryn Bennett, "The term comics poetry can be applied to a growing field of works that fall outside of traditional definitions of both comics and poetry. Comics
a medium used to express ideas with images, often combined with text or other visual information. It typically the form of a sequence of panels of images. Textual devices such as speech balloons, captions, and onomatopoeia can indicate dialogue, narration, sound effects, or other information. There is no consensus amongst theorists and historians on a definition of comics; some emphasize the combination of images and text, some sequentiality or other image relations, and others historical aspects such as mass reproduction or the use of recurring characters. Cartooning and other forms of illustration are the most common image-making means in comics; '' fumetti'' is a form that uses photographic images. Anders Nilsen (born 1973) is an American cartoonist who lives in Los Angeles, California. Biography Nilsen graduated with an art degree from the University of New Mexico in 1996.Nilsen, Anders. Oliver Baez Bendorf
Oliver Baez Bendorf (born 1987) is an American poet. Early life and education Oliver Baez Bendorf was born on June 21, 1987, in Iowa City, Iowa. His poems sometimes feature the landscape of his childhood, and his writing about returning to Iowa for a visit while transitioning genders was published in ''Buzzfeed''. He graduated with a BA from the University of Iowa in 2009. In 2013, he earned an MFA in poetry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he met his teachers Lynda Barry, Quan Barry, Amaud Jamaul Johnson, Jesse Lee Kercheval, and Ronald Wallace. Footnotes
A note is a string of text placed at the bottom of a page in a book or document or at the end of a chapter, volume, or the whole text. The note can provide an author's comments on the main text or citations of a reference work in support of the text. Footnotes are notes at the foot of the page while endnotes are collected under a separate heading at the end of a chapter, volume, or entire work. Unlike footnotes, endnotes have the advantage of not affecting the layout of the main text, but may cause inconvenience to readers who have to move back and forth between the main text and the endnotes. James Romberger
James Romberger (born 1958) is an American fine artist and cartoonist known for his depictions of New York City's Lower East Side. Romberger's pastel drawings of the ravaged landscape of the Lower East Side and its citizens are in many public and private collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Brooklyn Museums in New York City. David Lasky
David Lasky (born December 8, 1967 in Washington, D.C.) is an alternative cartoonist based in Seattle, Washington. Biography After spending the bulk of his life in Virginia, and graduating from the College of William & Mary, Lasky moved to Seattle in 1992. He quickly found a circle of young comic book artists—including Megan Kelso, Tom Hart, Ed Brubaker, Jon Lewis, and Jason Lutes—drawing and publishing their own work. With them, Lasky aspired to take clichéd or neglected genres of comics and revitalize them with the lessons learned from the first wave of alternative comics. Nicky Arscott
Nicky Arscott (born 1983) is a poet and artist who lives and works near Machynlleth, Powys, Wales. Early life and education Nicky Arscott was born in Oxford in 1983 and grew up in Ledbury. William Corbett (October 11, 1942 – August 10, 2018) was an American poet, essayist, editor, educator, and publisher. Julie Delporte
Julie Delporte (born in 1983) is a Canadian cartoonist and illustrator. She lives in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Biography Delporte immigrated to Montreal from Saint-Malo, France, in 2005. She had studied journalism in France because of her love of writing, but did not enjoy being a journalist. Delporte had not attended art school or had family role-models for living and working as an artist, and it was not until she moved to Montreal that she found what she describes as "the social and economic possibility to become an artist." Franklin Einspruch is an American artist and writer based in Hillsborough, New Hampshire. Biography Franklin Einspruch was born in Dallas, Texas.
