Comet (Impact Comics)
The Comet is a fictional character, a superhero that first appeared in the DC Comics' Impact Comics series, ''The Comet''. The character is loosely based on the Archie Comics character, '' The Comet''. Fictional character biography The Comet's story is narrated, first-person, by the character himself in the past tense. In the beginning, he is an ordinary human named Rob Connors, whose only real ambition in life is to play professional baseball. His ambition is somewhat stilted by his parents, who are scientists living in arctic areas. Rob returns to his parents' home one day to find it torn apart by some kind of battle, which to all appearances took places weeks ago: our first sign of a strange continuity clash, since Rob had been gone only a matter of hours. Tom Lyle
Thomas Stanford Lyle (November 2, 1953 – November 19, 2019) was an American comics artist, best known for his work on ''Starman'' and '' Robin'' for DC Comics, and ''Spider-Man'' for Marvel Comics. Career Tom Lyle's comics career began in the mid 1980s penciling titles such ''Airboy'', '' Strike!'', and ''Airwolf'' for Eclipse Comics. From 1988 to 1990, he penciled DC Comics' ''Starman'' series with writer Roger Stern, introducing the second Blockbuster in ''Starman'' #9 (April 1989). Lyle worked on the first solo '' Robin'' limited series with writer Chuck Dixon. The series was reprinted a number of times, and led to two sequel miniseries – ''Robin II: Joker's Wild'' and ''Robin III: Cry of the Huntress'' – by the same creative team. Dixon and Lyle also co-created the Electrocutioner in ''Detective Comics'' #644 (May 1992) and Stephanie Brown in ''Detective Comics'' #647 (August 1992). The Black Hood
The Black Hood is a fictional character created by MLJ Comics (later known as Archie Comics) during the period known as the " Golden Age of Comic Books". The Black Hood first appeared in '' Top-Notch Comics #9'', October 1940 and became one of MLJ's most popular characters. He has been in four self-titled series as well as in his own radio show, ''Black Hood'' (1943–1944). In recent decades, the Black Hood (along with other Archie Comics superheroes) has been sporadically licensed and published by DC Comics. However, the character reappeared under Archie Comics' Dark Circle Comics line in 2015. Publication history The Black Hood first appeared in MLJ's '' Top-Notch Comics'' #9 (cover-dated Oct. 1940). Halo (optical Phenomenon)
A halo is an optical phenomenon produced by light (typically from the Sun or Moon) interacting with ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere. Halos can have many forms, ranging from colored or white rings to arcs and spots in the sky. Many of these appear near the Sun or Moon, but others occur elsewhere or even in the opposite part of the sky. Among the best known halo types are the circular halo (properly called the 22° halo), light pillars, and sun dogs, but many others occur; some are fairly common while others are extremely rare. The ice crystals responsible for halos are typically suspended in cirrus or cirrostratus clouds in the upper troposphere (), but in cold weather they can also float near the ground, in which case they are referred to as diamond dust. The Comet (Archie)
The Comet is a fictional character that first appeared in ''Pep Comics'' #1 in January 1940. A little over a year later, the Comet was the first superhero to be killed in the line of duty. He died in issue #17 (July 1941), which also introduced his brother, a brutal hero called the Hangman. Publication history In ''Pep'' #1, in a story drawn by Jack Cole, young scientist John Dickering has discovered a gas fifty times lighter than hydrogen. By injecting small doses of the gas into his bloodstream, he is able to make great leaps through the air. After a number of injections, twin beams come from Dickering's eyes and when he crosses the beams, whatever he is looking at disintegrates. He makes a glass shield (visor) as that is the only thing his beams will not disintegrate, a weakness often used against him from the first story onwards.
