Comedy Minus One
Comedy Minus One is an independent record label based in Princeton, New Jersey. It was founded in 2007 by Jon Solomon. Comedy Minus One picks up where an earlier Solomon label - My Pal God Records - left off, but with a more focused remit. The label, which takes its name from the 1973 Albert Brooks record of the same name, has so far concentrated on the output of a small group of post-hardcore and noise rock bands, but has also provided a distribution outlet for some previous releases. Jon Solomon
Jon Solomon (born April 19, 1973) is an American radio DJ. He has been the host of "Jon Solomon's Annual 25-Hour Holiday Radio Show" at WPRB in Princeton, New Jersey, since 1988, when he was fifteen years old. Solomon's weekly three-hour radio program broadcasts on Wednesdays on WPRB. Each week's show features a live performance, and more than 200 bands have appeared on this show since 2001. ''Philebrity'' called Solomon "the closest thing the Philly indie rock scene has to a John Peel". Solomon lives in the Lawrenceville section of Lawrence Township, Mercer County, New Jersey. Oxford Collapse
Oxford Collapse were an American indie rock band from Brooklyn, New York. The band’s lineup included Michael Pace on vocals and guitars, Dan Fetherston on drums, and Adam Rizer on bass and vocals. History Oxford Collapse first released a limited press self-titled EP for the HCR label in 2002. Shortly after they signed to Kanine Records, a label based in New York City/Brooklyn, where they released their first full-length album '' Some Wilderness'' in April 2004. This was followed by a remix of a track from the album titled " Melting the Ice Queen" in July of that year. In October, the band released a 7-inch vinyl EP, entitled ''Songs For The Singers Of Panthers'', on Discoloration Records before releasing their final effort from Kanine Records, ''A Good Ground''. The band then signed to indie label Sub Pop, where they released ''Remember The Night Parties'' in October 2006. Joel RL Phelps And The Downer Trio
Joel RL Phelps (born 1966) is an American musician and songwriter originally from Montana, known for his work with the indie rock bands Silkworm and The Downer Trio. Phelps has played with Pacific Northwest bands such as Ein Heit, which he joined in high school, and The Wilma Pool. He founded Silkworm after Ein Heit broke up in 1987. More recently he teamed up with G. Stuart Dahlquist, brother of the late Silkworm drummer Michael Dahlquist, to form the band Dama/Libra. He also writes and performs solo material. Career Phelps left Silkworm in 1994 in the middle of a tour, and recorded an album in 1995 with members of other bands such as Jessamine, Citizens' Utilities, and the Deflowers. Rebecca Gates
The Spinanes were an American indie rock Musical ensemble#Rock and pop bands, band, primarily active during the 1990s. The band was founded by and consisted only of singer-songwriter/guitarist Rebecca Gates and drummer Scott Plouf. They released three albums on the Sub Pop label before Gates retired the name in 2001 and began releasing music as a solo artist; Plouf began playing with Built to Spill in 1996 and left The Spinanes shortly thereafter to become their permanent drummer. The duo formed in Portland, Oregon, in 1991, just as worldwide interest in the Indie music scene, music scene of the Pacific Northwest was beginning to crest. SAVAK is an indie rock band from Brooklyn, New York. Their debut album Best of Luck in Future Endeavors was released on Comedy Minus One in May 2016, garnering positive reviews in Magnet Magazine, Brooklyn Vegan, Noisey, Vol. 1 Brooklyn and ''Jersey Beat''. The record received four stars in Mojo Magazine, who praised their ''"superior twin-guitar slash."'' Since then the band has released 3 additional albums on the Ernest Jenning) record label including Cut-Ups in 2017, Beg Your Pardon in 2018 and Rotting Teeth in the Horse's Mouth in 2020.
