Comeaux House
The Comeaux House is a historic house located at 101 East 2nd Street in Broussard, Louisiana. Built in c.1908 by Edmond Comeaux and his wife Cecile St. Julien Comeaux, the house is a Queen Anne-Colonial Revival style residence with semi-octagonal bay at each end of the facade, a semi-octagonal Doric front gallery and a corner turret. The building was converted to a restaurant with small alterations which did not affect its main architectural features. wit14 photos and three maps. (See alsscanned text.) The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 14, 1983. The structure is actually hosting Nash's Restaurant. Broussard, Louisiana
Broussard is a city in Lafayette and St. Martin parishes in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The population was 8,197 at the 2010 U.S. census, and 13,417 at the 2020 United States census. Broussard is part of the Lafayette metropolitan statistical area. History The community was originally named ''Côte Gelée'' (Frozen Hill) because of its hilly ridge area and the severe winter of 1784. Broussard was founded in 1884. It was named after Valsin Broussard, a prominent local merchant, who formed the first vigilante committee when his own store was robbed. He was a direct descendant of Joseph Broussard de Beausoleil, one of the first 200 Acadians to arrive in Louisiana on February 27, 1765, aboard the ''Santo Domingo''. Primary agricultural resources include sugarcane, soybean and hay production as well as horse and cattle farming.
