Comayagua () is one of the 18 departments ''(departamentos)'' into which Honduras is divided. The departmental capital is Comayagua. Geography The department covers a total surface area of 5,124 km² and, in 2015, had an estimated population of 511,943 people. Economy Historically, the department produced gold, copper, cinnabar, asbestos, and silver. Gems were also mined, including opal and emerald. The area was also known for "fine" cattle. Departments Of Honduras
Honduras is divided into 18 departments ( Spanish: ''departamentos''). Each department is headed by a governor, who is appointed by the President of Honduras. The governor represents the executive branch in the region in addition to acting as intermediary between municipalities and various national authorities; resolves issues arising between municipalities; oversees the penitentiaries and prisons in his department; and regularly works with the various Secretaries of State that form the President's Cabinet. To be eligible for appointment as governor, the individual must a) live for five consecutive years in the department; b) be Honduran; c) be older than 18 years of age and; d) know how to read and write. Lamaní
Lamaní is a municipality in the Honduran department of Comayagua. It is located about 25 minutes from the City of Comayagua, in the vicinity of the Piedra Parada Mountain. Overview Many of Lamaní's residents own farms where they raise cows and other livestock. Farmers also cultivate rice, beans, corn, coffee, tomato, cucumbers, and eggplants, among other crops. Some residents immigrate to the United States to work and provide income to their families. Being a small town, Lamaní immigrants know each other and tend to stay in touch, sometimes forming neighborhoods with a lot of Lamaní immigrants in the United States. It has recently undergone changes to its physical and communications infrastructure, such as paving of roads, access to the internet, cable television service, etc. They have their own medical clinic and preparatory schools. Comayagua () is a city, municipality and old capital of Honduras, located northwest of Tegucigalpa on the highway to San Pedro Sula and above sea level. The accelerated growth experienced by the city of Comayagua led the municipal authorities to structure a territorial reorganization plan. Between the years of 1945 -1975 the population of the city quadrupled due to the high rate of population growth achieved at that time (4.8%) and to migratory movements in the interior of the country.
