Coláiste Chríost Rí
Coláiste Chríost Rí ( en, Christ the King College) is a Trusteeship Board Catholic secondary school for boys based on Capwell Road in Turners Cross, Cork, Ireland. History The school was founded by the Presentation Brothers and owned by the order until 21 November 2009. The school was opened in its current location in 1960, having previously been located in Kinsale Road and subsequently in Sawmill Street. It was designated the Cork School of Culture during Cork's tenure as European Capital of Culture in 2005. Sport Gaelic football is the principal sport played at the school. The school has won the Hogan Cup on four occasions: 1968, 1970, 1983 and 1985. Several former students have gone on to represent Cork GAA at inter-county level in both Gaelic football and hurling. A number of former students, including Damien Delaney, Denis Irwin, Chiedozie Ogbene, Frank O'Farrell and Kieran O'Regan, have represented the Republic of Ireland national football team. Micheál Martin (; born 1 August 1960) is an Irish Fianna Fáil politician who is serving as Tánaiste, Minister for Foreign Affairs (Ireland), Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence (Ireland), Minister for Defence since December 2022. Luke Connolly
Luke Connolly (born 2 November 1992) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for Cork Senior Championship club Nemo Rangers. He is a former member of the Cork senior football team. Connolly usually lines out as a forward. Playing career Coláiste Chríost Rí Connolly first came to football prominence as a student in Coláiste Chríost Rí in Cork. In his final year with the school he won a Corn Uí Mhuirí medal after a "prolific" performance at full-forward in a 1-12 to 1-07 win over Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne in the final. Ray Cawley
Ray Cawley (born 1944) is an Irish retired Gaelic footballer who played as a goalkeeper for the Cork senior football team. Born in Cork, Cawley first played competitive football during his schooling at Coláiste Chríost Rí. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Cork minor team, before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 1963 championship. Cawley went on to play for the team for just two seasons. He was a Munster runner-up on one occasion. At club level Cawley enjoyed a decade-long career with Nemo Rangers. He also lined out for Curragh Camp. Throughout his inter-county career, Cawley made just 3 championship appearances for Cork. Jonathan Holland (rugby Union)
Jonathan Holland (born 30 August 1991) is a retired Irish rugby union player. He played as a fly-half for Munster and Cork Constitution. Cork Constitution Holland was awarded the 2012–13 Ulster Bank Young Player of the Year Award for Division 1A. Munster Holland made his Munster A debut on 19 November 2011, coming on as a substitute against Neath. He made his senior debut for Munster on 23 November 2013, coming on as a substitute against Cardiff Blues. Marcus O'Sullivan
Marcus O'Sullivan (born in Cork, Ireland on 22 December 1961) is an Irish retired middle-distance runner. He competed for Ireland at four Summer Olympics. After Steve Scott and John Walker, he is the third all-time by total of sub-4 minute miles run over the course of his career, at 101. Running career Although he wasn't planning to go to any of Ireland's universities, O'Sullivan's running encouraged him to go to Villanova University at 19. While competing on a collegiate level, he worked towards a degree in accounting and later attained an MBA and a CPA. The three World Indoor 1500 metre Championships won by O'Sullivan were in 1987 (Indianapolis), 1989 (Budapest), and 1993 (Toronto). In his victories in 1987 and 1989, he set championship records. Robert Heffernan
Robert Heffernan (born 28 February 1978) is an Irish race walker. Career At the 2000 Olympics he finished in 28th place, and at the 2004 Olympics he was disqualified, both in the 20 km race walking discipline. At the 2008 Olympic Games he improved, coming eighth in the 20km Walk. His wife Marian Andrews is also national women's 400 metres champion and was on the Irish women's team that finished 4th in the European indoors. On 27 July 2010, Heffernan won the bronze medal in the 2010 European Athletics Championships in the 20 kilometres walk, posting a time of 1:21:00 (achieved retrospectively in 2014 after Russian Stanislav Emelyanov was found to have committed an anti-doping violation). Noel O'Mahony
Noel O'Mahony (18 December 1939 – 30 May 2013) was a former League of Ireland footballer and manager. As a player, he won the 1970–71 League of Ireland title with Cork Hibernians and as manager he won the 1992–93 League of Ireland Premier Division with Cork City. Family and early years O'Mahony was the son of Nora and Timothy O'Mahony and he grew up on Pearse Road in the Ballyphehane district of Cork. Two of his brothers were also League of Ireland footballers. Like Noel, Declan also played for Cork Hibernians while Pat played for Cork Celtic. Eddie Hobbs
Eddie Hobbs (born 10 November 1962) is an Irish financial advisor, writer, campaigner and former television presenter and author. Hobbs was a co-founder and former president of the right-wing party Renua Ireland, resigning in 2016. Ger Canning
Ger Canning is an Irish sports commentator with Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ). Career Ger Canning was born in Cork on 10 May 1951. He was a secondary school teacher at South Presentation school in Cork City when he began his broadcasting career with Cork Local Radio in 1978. Two years later in 1980 he joined the national broadcaster, Radio Telefís Éireann, as a member of the station's sports department. As a fluent Irish-speaker his first All-Ireland final commentary was on RTÉ 2 in 1981, because the station then had a policy of using the two channels for commentaries in both English and Irish. After Michael O'Hehir's retirement due to ill-health in 1985, Canning became the main Gaelic games commentator on RTÉ television. Bob Crowley (born 10 June 1952) is a theatre designer (scenic and costume), and theatre director. He lives between London, New York and West Cork in the south west of Ireland.
