The Columbus State Cougars are the athletic teams that represent Columbus State University, located in Columbus, Georgia, in intercollegiate sports at the Division II level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), primarily competing in the Peach Belt Conference since the 1990–91 academic year. Columbus State competes in thirteen intercollegiate varsity sports. Columbus State University
Columbus State University is a public university in Columbus, Georgia. Founded as Columbus College in 1958, the university was established and is administered by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. History The university was first called Columbus College when it opened as a junior college in a hosiery mill in 1958. The college was staffed by fifteen faculty and staff and almost three hundred students attended courses in the first year. Columbus College relocated to the midtown area in 1963, building a campus defined by modern architecture on what was previously a dairy farm. The school was granted four-year status in 1965 with offerings of bachelor's and master's degrees. The first four-year class graduated in 1970. NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships
The NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships, played in late May, is an annual competition in U.S. men's collegiate golf. From its inception through 2010, it was a 72-hole stroke play team competition, with an additional award for the lowest scoring individual competitor. The team format changed starting in 2011 to 54 holes of stroke play followed by an eight-team single elimination medal match play competition. The 54-hole individual leader is the individual champion. Many of the individual champions have gone on to successful professional careers. The most successful individual winner is Lee Janzen (1986) who won eight times on the PGA Tour including two major championships, the 1993 and 1998 U.S. Opens. Matthías Orri Sigurðarson
Matthías Orri Sigurðarson (born 29 September 1994) is an Icelandic basketball player for Úrvalsdeild karla club KR and a former member of the Icelandic men's national basketball team. Playing career After starting his career with KR in 2010, Matthías Orri had is breakout season with ÍR in 2013–2014 when he averaged 16.8 points and 6.7 assists. In 2014–2015, he upped his scoring average to 19.2 points while also averaging 5.9 assists and 5.6 rebounds. Kenney Funderburk (born April 13, 1992) is an American professional basketball player who plays for CSM Ploiești of the Liga Națională. He played college basketball at Columbus State from 2013 to 2015. Jason Douglas Rogers (born March 13, 1988) is an American professional baseball first baseman for the Lincoln Saltdogs of the American Association of Professional Baseball. The NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championship is an annual men's college tennis national collegiate championship sponsored by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for teams in Division II. The Troy Trojans men's golf teams represent Troy University located in Troy, Alabama, and compete in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I and the Sun Belt Conference.
