Columbus FC is a Canadian soccer club based in Vancouver, British Columbia currently playing in the Premier division of the Vancouver Metro Soccer League. In 2013, the club was recognized as a Canada Soccer Hall of Fame Organization of Distinction. History Father Della Torre was instrumental in starting the team in 1953 as Sacred Heart soccer team, with the goal of providing a team for the many Italian immigrants who settled in the east side of Vancouver. By 1957, the team name changed to Columbus and was under the guidance of Peter Mainardi. As president, Mainairdi gave the club stability and strong leadership and paved the way for Columbus' future successes. Vancouver Metro Soccer League
The Vancouver Metro Soccer League (VMSL) is a soccer men's league operating in British Columbia, Canada primarily in the Lower Mainland area. History The league is an amateur league, and does not compete against or promote teams to the Canadian Soccer Pyramid. The Premier Division provides the highest level of amateur play in British Columbia. This league has produced several British Columbia Soccer Association Province Cup Champions, including the last 9 consecutive champions. In 2007, the league also produced a runner-up to the Open Canada Cup in Columbus Clan FC. Sam Lenarduzzi
Silvano "Sam" Lenarduzzi (born December 19, 1949) is a former Canadian soccer player. He was a two-time national champion with British Columbia Selects (1966) and Vancouver Columbus FC (1969). He represented Canada in three cycles of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. He was part of the inaugural class honoured by the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame in 2000. Born in Udine, Italy, but raised in Vancouver, Lenarduzzi made his international debut in 1967 as member of the Pan American Games team in Winnipeg. He went on to play in the Pan American Games again in Cali, Colombia in 1971. In 1977 Lenarduzzi was named into the tournament all star team during the pre-World Cup competition in Mexico. From 1967 to 1980, he made 43 combined international appearances ("A" and "B") for Canada, at the time a national record. Gordon Chin
Gordon Chin (; born March 26, 1983) is a Canadian former soccer player. He is of partial Chinese descent. Primarily a midfielder, Chin has played professionally in Canada, England, the United States and China, and has represented Canada internationally at various youth levels, including at the 2003 FIFA U-20 World Cup. Career Youth Chin began playing at the youth level with local sides Metro-Ford Benfica and Metro Burnaby. He trained abroad and had tryouts throughout Europe with teams such as R.S.C. Luca Bellisomo (born 25 October 1986 in Johannesburg) is a South African-born Canadian soccer player who last played for Finnish Veikkausliiga club IFK Mariehamn. Career Youth and College Bellisomo was born in South Africa, and moved with his family to the Greater Vancouver area in 1994. Bruce Wilson (soccer)
Bruce Alec Wilson (born June 20, 1951) is a former NASL and Canadian international soccer player. He played the second most games of any player in the former league, 299 (276 regular season and 23 playoff). He also captained the Canadian team at the 1986 FIFA World Cup finals. In 2012 as part of the Canadian Soccer Association's centennial celebration, he was named to the all-time Canada XI men's team. Gogie Stewart (2 January 1929 – 12 May 2003) was a multi-sport athlete from British Columbia, notably a former Canadian soccer player and lacrosse player. Bobby Smith (Canadian Soccer)
Bobby Smith (born 30 November 1940) is a former Canadian soccer player. He was an outside left, most notably with Vancouver Columbus FC with whom he played in the 1968 Canadian final. He is an honoured member of the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame. In the Pacific Coast League, Smith won league championships titles with North Shore United (1959–60) and Columbus FC (1969-70). He was a British Columbia All-Star five times in an eight-year span from 1960 to 1967. He was one of only three players that scored more than 150 goals in the Pacific Coast League from 1939–40 to 1972–73, setting the league record with 160 goals from 1958 to 1972.
