Maximilian Colt
Maximilian Colt (alias Maximilian Coult) (died after 1641) was a Flemish sculptor who settled in England and eventually rose to become the King's Master Carver. Life Colt was a Calvinist, born in Arras apparently as Maximilian Poultrain, who settled in England in the closing years of the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. He lived in London, in Bartholomew Close ( Smithfield). When King James I came to the English Throne, Colt was commissioned to produce an extravagant monument to the memory of Queen Elizabeth. This was followed by smaller monuments to James' infant daughters, the Princesses Mary and Sophia. All three can be seen in Westminster Abbey. On 28 July 1608, he was appointed the King's Master Carver. He was employed decorating several Royal barges in 1621. The carvings were painted by John de Critz and detailed in his bill. The Colt Baronetcy, of St James's-in-the-Fields in the Liberty of Westminster in the County of Middlesex, is a title in the Baronetage of England. It was created on 2 March 1694 for Henry Colt, Adjutant to Prince Rupert of the Rhine and member of parliament for Newport and Westminster. The title was created with remainder to his younger brother John Dutton Colt, Member of Parliament for Leominster. Sir Henry died childless and was succeeded according to the special remainder by his great-nephew, the second Baronet. He was the grandson of John Colt. Samuel Colt (; July 19, 1814 – January 10, 1862) was an American inventor, industrialist, and businessman who established Colt's Patent Fire-Arms Manufacturing Company (now Colt's Manufacturing Company) and made the mass production of revolvers commercially viable. Colt's first two business ventures were producing firearms in Paterson, New Jersey, and making underwater mines; both ended in disappointment. His business affairs improved rapidly after 1847, when the Texas Rangers ordered 1,000 revolvers during the American war with Mexico. His first job was in a theatrical fabric house, he also worked on painting scenery during the summer. '' On the Town'' was the first Broadway show he worked on in 1944. LeBaron Bradford Colt (June 25, 1846 – August 18, 1924) was a United States senator from Rhode Island and a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and of the United States Circuit Courts for the First Circuit and previously was a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island. Judah Colt (July 1, 1761 – October 11, 1832) was an early pioneer of Erie County. Early Life Colt was born on July 1, 1761, in Lyme, Connecticut. After the death of his father, Colt decided to move west in 1789 and in Albany, New York, joined Oliver Phelps heading for the Genesee Lands. There he purchased land in Canadarque, later known as Canandaigua, from Phelps. In Canandaigua, Colt worked as a surveyor, merchant, and farmer and commonly returned to Lyme, Connecticut during the winter. He was appointed sheriff of Ontario County in 1790. In 1795 he traveled with Augustus Porter to Presque Isle and purchased land from the Pennsylvania Population Company in Erie County, Pennsylvania. In 1796, he attempted to buy thousands of acres of land from the Pennsylvania Population Company, but they declined, hiring him instead to replace Thomas Rees, Jr. as their agent.
