Colrain Poetry Manuscript Conference
The Colrain Poetry Manuscript Conference is the only writers' conference focused entirely on book-length poetry manuscripts. Founded by poet Joan Houlihan, the conference is held 9-10 times a year in locations around the United States and consists of book-length and chapbook-length poetry manuscript reviews by editors and publishers from established poetry presses, including Graywolf Press, Four Way Books, Persea Books, Omnidawn, Barrow Street Press and others, along with poets and editors including conference founder Joan Houlihan (Lesley University), Fred Marchant (Suffolk University) and Ellen Doré Watson (Smith College). Joan Houlihan
Joan Houlihan is an American poet. She is the author of six books, most recently ''It Isn't a Ghost if it Lives in Your Chest'' (Four Way Books), winner of the 2021 Julia Ward Howe Award. Graywolf Press is an Independent publisher, independent, non-profit publishing, publisher located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Graywolf Press publishes fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. Four Way Books
Four Way Books is an American nonprofit literary press located in New York City, New York, which publishes poetry and short fiction by emerging and established writers. It features the work of the winners of national poetry competitions, as well as collections accepted through general submission, panel selection, and solicitation by the editors. The press is run by director and founding editor Martha Rhodes, who is the author of five poetry collections. Four Way Books titles are distributed by University of Chicago Press. Persea Books
''Persea'' is a genus of about 150 species of evergreen trees belonging to the laurel family, Lauraceae. The best-known member of the genus is the avocado, ''P. americana'', widely cultivated in subtropical regions for its large, edible fruit. Overview They are medium-size trees, tall at maturity. The leaves are simple, lanceolate to broad lanceolate, varying with species from long and broad, and arranged spirally or alternately on the stems. The flowers are in short panicles, with six small greenish-yellow perianth segments long, nine stamens and an ovary with a single embryo. The fruit is an oval or pear-shaped berry, with a fleshy outer covering surrounding the single seed; size is very variable among the species, from in e.g. ''P. borbonia'' and ''P. indica'', up to in some cultivars of ''P. americana''. Barrow Street Press
''Barrow Street'' was a twice-a-year American poetry magazine founded in 1998 and based in New York City. The small journal published prominent poets and its poems have been reprinted in anthologies such as The Best American Poetry series. Some of the poets whose work appeared in the magazine include Kim Addonizio, Billy Collins, David Lehman, Richard Lehnert, Jeffrey Levine (poet), Jeffrey Levine, Robert Wrigley and Rachel Zucker. Fred Marchant is an American poet, and Professor of English and Literature at Suffolk University. He is the director of both the Creative Writing program and The Poetry Center at Suffolk University. Life In 1970, he became one of the first officers of the US Marine Corps to be honorably discharged as a conscientious objectors in the Vietnam war. He is the author of four books of poetry, of which Tipping Point was the winner of the 1993 Washington Prize in poetry. Ellen Doré Watson
Ellen Doré Watson is an American poet, translator and teacher. Career Watson is author of six collections of poems, most recently, ''pray me stay eager'' (Alice James Books). Her book, ''Ladder Music,'' was a New York/New England Award winner from Alice James Books. Other honors include a Massachusetts Cultural Council Artists Grant and a 1997 Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers' Award. Watson has translated eleven books, including ''The Alphabet in the Park: The Selected poems of Adélia Prado'' (Wesleyan University Press), for which she was awarded an NEA Translation Fellowship and interviewed by ''BOMB Magazine.''
