Colorado–Kansas State Football Rivalry
The Colorado–Kansas State football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the University of Colorado Buffaloes and Kansas State University Wildcats. The rivalry dates from their first college football game in 1912, and has continued across all sports, including basketball since their time in the Big Eight Conference joining in 1947. The rivalry intensified while the two schools were conference foes and members of the Big 12 Conference from 1996 to 2010. The rivalry was renewed in 2016 for a home-and-home series in 2027 and 2028. Colorado Buffaloes
The Colorado Buffaloes are the athletic teams that represent the University of Colorado. The university sponsors 17 varsity sports teams. Both the men's and women's teams are called the Buffaloes (Buffs for short) or, rarely, the Golden Buffaloes. "Lady Buffs" referred to the women's teams beginning in the 1970s, but was officially dropped in 1993. The nickname was selected by the campus newspaper in a contest with a $5 prize in 1934 won by Andrew Dickson of Boulder. The Kansas State Wildcats (variously "Kansas State", "K-State", or "KSU") are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent Kansas State University. The official color of the teams is Royal Purple; white and silver are generally used as complementary colors. The Big Eight Conference was a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)-affiliated Division I-A college athletic association that sponsored football.
