Colorado's 18th Senate district is one of 35 districts in the Colorado Senate. It has been represented by Democratic Party (United States), Democrat Steve Fenberg, the current Senate President, since 2017. Geography District 18 is based in the city of Boulder, Colorado, Boulder, also covering the outlying Boulder County, Colorado, Boulder County communities of Lyons, Colorado, Lyons, Nederland, Colorado, Nederland, Gunbarrel, Colorado, Gunbarrel, and Niwot, Colorado, Niwot. The district is located almost entirely within Colorado's 2nd congressional district, with a small section extending into the Colorado's 4th congressional district, 4th district. The 2012 United States presidential election in Colorado took place on November 6, 2012, as part of the 2012 United States presidential election in which all 50 states plus the District of Columbia participated. Colorado voters chose nine electors to represent them in the Electoral College via a popular vote pitting incumbent Democratic President Barack Obama and his running mate, Vice President Joe Biden, against Republican challenger and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and his running mate, Congressman Paul Ryan. Obama and Biden carried Colorado with 51.49% of the popular vote to Romney's and Ryan's 46.13%, thus winning the state's nine electoral votes by a 5.36% margin. John Hickenlooper
John Wright Hickenlooper Jr. (; born February 7, 1952) is an American politician serving as the junior United States senator from Colorado since 2021. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as the 42nd governor of Colorado from 2011 to 2019 and as the 43rd mayor of Denver from 2003 to 2011. He was a geologist and businessman before entering politics. Born in Narberth, Pennsylvania, Hickenlooper is a graduate of Wesleyan University.
