''Colonial Cousins'' is the debut studio album of Indian band Colonial Cousins, which is formed by Indian duo composed of singer Hariharan (singer), Hariharan and singer-composer Lesle Lewis (composer), Lesle Lewis. It was released on October 1, 1996, under Magnasound Records. Reception The album broke all records including hitting platinum sales in India. The duo also won the MTV Asia Viewer's Choice Award and then later on secured the US Billboard Viewer's Choice Award too. The song "Krishna" won the award for Best Music Video at the 1997 Star Screen Awards, Screen Videocon Awards. The exceptional Indian and Western music fusion generated a new genre of music and won hearts of millions of music lovers worldwide. Colonial Cousins is an Indian duo, formed by singer Hariharan and singer-composer Lesle Lewis, who also have successful solo careers. Their eponymous first album hit platinum in sales in India alone and consistently headed the Indian music charts in 1996. Magnasound
Magnasound was an Indian record company that specialized in Indian classical music, Indian rock and Indipop. It was distributed by OMI Music Inc. Shashi Gopal was the managing director of Magnasound. History Shashi Gopal founded Magnasound in 1989 with his wife Kalpana and brother-in-law Madhav Das. The three launched the company with their life savings, which totaled Rs 6 lakhs. In the early 1990s, the company gained a reputation for signing young artists like Daler Mehndi, Baba Sehgal, and Alisha Chinai, as well as acclaimed rock bands Rock Machine and 13AD Already established artists like A. R. Rahman and Asha Bhosle also released albums for the label. Magnasound began to concentrate more on classical artists. ''The Way We Do It'' is the second studio album of Colonial Cousins, an Indian duo composed of singer Hariharan and singer-composer Lesle Lewis. It was released on November 19, 1998 under the label Sony BMG. Reception The first Colonial Cousins album was a tour de force. On November 19, 1998, their second album, a sophomore effort, ''The Way We Do It'', was a continuation of and a departure from that first effort. Lyrically low-key, musically rich and groove-ridden, this album saw Hari and Lezz establish themselves as India's premier fusion artists. The album was a continuation in musical terms to the extent that Lezz and Hari had done what they do best individually, and fused it into a format that enriches and complements each other. That said, the album was also a departure sound-wise from their eponymous first album. While that has a softer sound to it, their second album was edgier and groovier. Hariharan (singer)
Hariharan (born 3 April 1955) is an Indian playback, bhajan and ghazal singer who predominantly sings in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu languages. He has also sung over 15,000 notable songs in 10 regional languages including Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi, Sinhala and Bhojpuri. He is an established ghazal singer and one of the pioneers of Indian fusion music. In 2004, he was honoured with the Padma Shri by the Government of India and is a two-time National Award winner.
