Colombia National Rugby Sevens Team
The Colombia national rugby sevens team participates in the annual Sudamérica Rugby Sevens tournament. Their best finish was in the 2015 tournament, where they finished fourth. The team is governed by the Colombian Rugby Federation. Colombia has not yet qualified for any major global rugby sevens competitions, such as the Rugby World Cup Sevens, the World Rugby Sevens Series, nor Rugby sevens at the Summer Olympics Rugby sevens at the Summer Olympics was played for the first time at the 2016 Summer Olympics with both men's and women's contests. The Colombian Rugby Federation ( es, Federación Colombiana de Rugby or FCR in Spanish) is the governing body for rugby union in Colombia. The FCR is a member of World Rugby, the governing body for rugby globally, and a member of Sudamérica Rugby, the governing body for rugby in South America. Rugby World Cup Sevens
Rugby World Cup Sevens (RWCS) is the quadrennial world championship of rugby sevens, a variant of rugby union. Organised by World Rugby, it currently consists of men's and women's tournaments, and is the highest level of competition in the sport outside of the Summer Olympics. The first tournament was held in 1993 in Scotland, and was won by England. The winners of the men's tournament are awarded the Melrose Cup, named after the Scottish town of Melrose where the first rugby sevens game was played. A women's tournament was introduced at the 2009 Rugby World Cup Sevens in Dubai, and was first won by Australia. World Rugby Sevens Series
The World Rugby Men's Sevens Series is an annual series of international rugby sevens tournaments run by World Rugby featuring national sevens teams. Organised for the first time in the 1999–2000 season as the IRB World Sevens Series, the competition was formed to promote an elite-level of international rugby sevens and develop the game into a viable commercial product. The competition has been sponsored by banking group HSBC since 2014. The season's circuit consists of 10 tournaments that generally begin in November or December and last until May. The venues are held across 10 countries, and visits five of the six populated continents. Rugby sevens at the Summer Olympics was played for the first time at the 2016 Summer Olympics with both men's and women's contests.
