Colobodontidae
Colobodontidae is an extinct family of marine stem-neopterygian fish known from the Middle to Late Triassic of Asia and Europe. As currently defined, it contains three genera: '' Colobodus'', '' Crenilepis'' and '' Feroxichthys''. The colobodontids were medium-sized, somewhat deep-bodied fishes with a durophagous diet. Like many other stem-neopterygians, they have traditionally been placed in the order Perleidiformes, which is now thought to be paraphyletic In taxonomy (general), taxonomy, a group is paraphyletic if it consists of the group's most recent common ancestor, last common ancestor and most of its descendants, excluding a few Monophyly, monophyletic subgroups. The group is said to be pa .... Classification The cladogram below follows Ma ''et al.'' Perleidiformes are an extinct order of prehistoric ray-finned fish from the Triassic period Although numerous Triassic taxa have been referred to Perleidiformes, which ones should be included for it to form a monophyletic group is a matter of ongoing scientific debate. Teffichthys Madagascariensis
''Teffichthys'' is an extinct genus of ray-finned fish from the Early Triassic epoch. Fossils have been found in Madagascar and China, and possibly also in Angola, Canada, Greenland, and Svalbard. Classification The type species of ''Teffichthys'' is ''Perleidus madagascariensis'' from the Induan of Madagascar. ''Perleidus'' is a Middle Triassic genus; Early Triassic species were referred to this genus based on superficial similarities. In 2017, the genus ''Teffichthys'' was erected for "''Perleidus''" ''madagascariensis'', and the second species from Madagascar ("''Perleidus''" ''piveteaui'') was synonymized with ''Teffichthys madagascariensis''. Other Early Triassic species currently ascribed to ''Perleidus'' might be referrable to ''Teffichthys'', too. A phylogenetic analysis placed ''Teffichthys'' as a stem-neopterygian closely related to ''Meidiichthys ''Meidiichthys'' is an extinct genus of prehistoric bony fish that lived during the Early Triassic epoch ... Platysiagiformes
Platysiagidae is an extinct family of stem-neopterygian ray-finned fish which lived from the Early Triassic to the Early Jurassic. It includes the genera '' Helmolepis'', '' Platysiagum'' and possibly '' Caelatichthys''. The family was formerly placed within the paraphyletic order Perleidiformes, but it is now considered to belong to the separate, monotypic In biology, a monotypic taxon is a taxonomic group (taxon) that contains only one immediately subordinate taxon. A monotypic species is one that does not include subspecies or smaller, infraspecific taxa. In the case of genera, the term "unispe ... order Platysiagiformes. Holostei
Holostei is a group of ray-finned bony fish. It is divided into two major clades, the Halecomorphi, represented by a single living species, the bowfin (''Amia calva''), as well as the Ginglymodi, the sole living representatives being the gars (Lepisosteidae), represented by seven living species in two genera (''Atractosteus'', ''Lepisosteus''). The earliest members of the clade appeared during the Early Triassic, over 250 million years ago. Holostei was thought to be regarded as paraphyletic. However, a recent study provided evidence that the Holostei are the closest living relates of the Teleostei, both within the Neopterygii. This was found from the morphology of the Holostei, for example presence of a paired vomer. Holosteans are closer to teleosts than are the chondrosteans, the other group intermediate between teleosts and cartilaginous fish, which are regarded as (at the nearest) a sister group to the Neopterigii. The spiracles of holosteans are reduced to vestigial remnan ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
