Colm Sheehan
Colm Sheehan (born 9 September 1941) was an Irish hurler. He played for club side Éire Óg, divisional side Muskerry and was the full-forward on the Cork senior hurling team that won the 1966 All-Ireland Championship. Sheehan's club career with Éire Óg lasted for over twenty years and spanned three decades. During that time, he won Cork Junior Championship medals in 1962 and 1977, while he also played for divisional side Muskerry. Sheehan made his first appearance for the Cork senior hurling team during the 1965 Munster Championship, having earlier played for the county in the minor, junior and intermediate grades. In 1966 he scored a hat-trick of goals in the final when Cork won their first All-Ireland Championship in 12 years, having earlier won the Munster Championship. Sheehan ended his inter-county career with the Cork intermediate team in 1968. His grandnephew, Ciarán Sheehan, is also an All-Ireland medal-winner with Cork senior football team. Playing career ... Éire Óg GAA (Cork)
Éire Óg is a Gaelic football and hurling club based in Ovens, County Cork, Ireland. The club is affiliated with Cork GAA county board and the Muskerry divisional board. History Éire Óg Hurling and Football club (''Cumann IománaÃochta agus Peile Éire Óg'') is located in the parish of Ovens/Farran approximately 16 km west of Cork city, just off the main Cork-Killarney road. Gaelic Games were played in the parish of Ovens and Farran dating back to the period immediately after the foundation of the G.A.A. in 1884. Éire Óg's predecessor, Bride Valley, named after the River Bride which flows through the parish, affiliated in 1890, fielding teams in both hurling and football. Cloughduv GAA
Cloughduv GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association based in the village of Cloughduv in County Cork, Ireland. The club is a member of the Muskerry division of Cork GAA. The club fields hurling team only. There are two Gaelic football clubs in the parish (Kilmurry parish) - Canovee and Kilmurry - and there is often an overlap of players between the different clubs. History Hurling in the area pre-dates the founding of the Gaelic Athletic Association in Thurles in 1884; when the Cork County Board was inaugurated in 1886, 21 clubs attended including Ryecourt GAA represented by Michael J Keane. Shortly thereafter the name was changed to Cloch Dubh. Success was not long in arriving, culminating in 1912 in a great victory in the County Senior Beamish Shield. Mid Cork Junior A Hurling Championship
The Mid Cork Junior A Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the MKJ Oils Junior A Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Muskerry Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1926 for junior hurling teams in the Muskerry region in County Cork, Ireland. The series of games begin in May, with the championship culminating with the final in September. The championship includes a knock-out stage and a "back door" for teams defeated in the first round. The Mid Cork Junior Championship is an integral part of the wider Cork Junior Hurling Championship. The winners and runners-up of the Mid Cork championship join their counterparts from the other six divisions to contest the county championship. Nine clubs currently participate in the Mid Cork Championship. The title has been won at least once by ten different teams. National Hurling League
The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into six divisions, with either five or six teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league. Although primarily a competition for Irish teams, teams from England – currently Lancashire GAA, Lancashire, London GAA, London and Warwickshire GAA, Warwickshire – also take part, while in the past New York GAA, New York also fielded a team for the latter stages of the league. Munster Intermediate Hurling Championship
The Munster Hurling Intermediate Championship is an annual hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1961 for the strong hurling teams in the province of Munster in Ireland. In some cases the teams consist of players who are not on the senior squads for their county (thus in effect, they are a second team), or in others of players who are from junior or intermediate clubs. The competition was established to prevent the stronger counties from dominating the Munster Junior Hurling Championship. The series of games are played during the summer months with the Munster final currently being played in July. The prize for the winning team is the Sweet Afton Cup.
