Collett Family
Collett (also spelled Collet) is a Norwegian family of English origin, descended from English-born merchant James Collett (born 1655 in London, died 1727 in Christiania), who settled in Christiania in 1683. He married Karen Leuch, and died as the richest man in the city. The firm he founded, ''Collett & Leuch'', later renamed ''Collett & Søn'' (Collett & Son), was continued for four generations until 1821. James Collett (1655–1727)
James Collett (18 August 1655 – 29 May 1727) was an English-born Norwegian merchant. Life James Collett was born in London, England. As a young man, he worked for an English wholesaler. In 1683, he settled in Christiania (now Oslo), Norway as factor of English merchants. In 1686, he married Karen Leuch (1666-1745), daughter of the wealthy Christiania merchant Peder Pedersen Leuch (1636-1693). With time, he became the largest timber trader in Christiania. In the early 18th century, he exported more timber from Christiania than anybody else and operated a fleet of ships. The firm he founded, Collett & Leuch, (later Collett & Son), continued within the family for four generations. The marriage of James Collett and Karen Leuch resulted in the birth of nine children. The family became part of the patriciate of Christiania in the 18th century. Axel Collett
Axel Collett (6 August 1880 in Kolvereid – 17 January 1968) was a Norwegian landowner, timber merchant and sawmill owner. He was a co-owner and actively involved in the management of Firma Albert Collett, a firm established by his father, which was and is one of the largest private land owners of Norway. The company owned of land in Namdalen, and built Salsbruket Tresliperi, a sawmill, of which he also served as director. A member of the English-origined Collett family, he was the son of land-owner Albert Collett, the grandson of land-owner John Collett of Buskerud Manor and the great-grandson of Supreme Court Justice and land-owner Peter Collett. Peter Collett (judge)
Peter Collett (8 August 1766 – 27 July 1836) was a Norwegian judge, businessman and property owner. Peter Collett was born at Modum in Buskerud, Norway. He was the eldest son of landowner Peter Collett (1740–1786) and his first wife Kirstine Holmboe (1745–1768). He was a brother of Christian Ancher Collett and Anne Cathrine Collett. He grew up on his father's estate at Buskerud Manor (''Buskerud Hovedgård''). From 1784 to 1785, Collett attended the Christiania Cathedral School. During 1788, he studied law at the University of Copenhagen. In August 1794 he married vicar's daughter Eilertine Severine Bendeke (1777–1857). Mathias Collett (10 September 1708 – 24 March 1759) was a Norwegian civil servant. Collett was born in Christiania (now Oslo), Norway. He was the son of merchant and city captain James Collett (1687-1724) and Karen Berg (1687-1744). He was the grandson of English-born, Norwegian merchant James Collett (1655–1727). Mathia Collett
Mathia Collett (; 28 May 1737 – 21 July 1801) was a Norwegian merchant and businessperson. After her first husband's death, she was the co-owner of the trading company ''Collett & Leuch'', an influential trading company, with her brother. From 1773 to her death in 1801, she was married to the then wealthiest person in Norway, Bernt Anker. She is the younger sister of the poet Ditlevine Feddersen. Jacobine Camilla Collett (née Wergeland; 23 January 1813 – 6 March 1895) was a Norwegian writer, often referred to as the first Norwegian feminist. She was also the younger sister of Norwegian poet Henrik Wergeland, and is recognized as being one of the first contributors to realism in Norwegian literature.
