College Of Earth And Mineral Sciences
The College of Earth and Mineral Sciences is a constituent, semi-autonomous part of Penn State University, University Park, Pennsylvania. The College was founded in 1896 as a School of Mines, but, over time, diversified becoming the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences. The college has five departments: Energy and Mineral Engineering, Geography, Geosciences, Materials Science and Engineering, and Meteorology. The Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering, as of fall 2007, now offers an undergraduate program in energy engineering, the first of its kind in the country. The College also includes The Alliance for Earth Science, Engineering, and Development in Africa (AESEDA), The Energy Institute, The Earth and Environmental Systems Institute (EESI), The John A. University Park (also referred to as Penn State University Park) is the name given to the Pennsylvania State University's main campus located in both State College and College Township, Pennsylvania, United States. The campus post office was designated "University Park, Pennsylvania" in 1953 by Penn State president Milton Eisenhower, after what was then Pennsylvania State College was upgraded to university status. Alexandra Tillson Filer
Alexandra Tillson Filer (July 1, 1916 – January 4, 2015) was an American metallurgist and collector. She was among the first women to earn a degree in metallurgy, in 1938. Early life and education Alexandra Tillson was born in July 1916 in Franklin, near Franklin Furnace, New Jersey. Her father Benjamin Franklin Tillson, a Yale alumnus, was assistant superintendent of the New Jersey Zinc Company. Her mother, Florence Rutherford Smith Tillson, was an alumna of Smith College. Tillson was a Girl Scout. She attended Pennsylvania State College, enrolled in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences as a metallurgy major. She was the first woman to complete that course at Penn State, when her degree was granted in 1938. Jay Sterner Hammond (July 21, 1922 – August 2, 2005) was an American politician of the Republican Party, who served as the fourth governor of Alaska from 1974 to 1982. Hammond was born in Troy, New York and served as a Marine Corps fighter pilot in World War II with the Black Sheep Squadron. In 1946, he moved to Alaska where he worked as a bush pilot. Hammond served as a state representative from 1959 to 1965 and as a state senator from 1967 to 1973. From 1972 until 1974 he was the mayor of the Bristol Bay Borough. Elliot Abrams (born May 31, 1947), a meteorologist, is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, US. Abrams has been an employee of AccuWeather since 1967 and is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University with both a bachelor's (in 1969) and a master's (in 1971) degree in meteorology, where he was also a member of the Pi Lambda Phi fraternity. He is a charter member of the Chi Epsilon Pi (national meteorology honor society). The Weather Channel (TWC) is an American pay television channel owned by Weather Group, LLC, a subsidiary of Allen Media Group. The channel's headquarters are in Atlanta, Georgia.
