College Football All-Star Challenge
The College Football All-Star Challenge is a made-for-television competition that is shown on ESPN. The event, produced by Chicago-based Intersport, features senior-class college football players competing in a number of skills contests, including throwing for distance, throwing for accuracy, shuttle runs, and powerlifting. The Challenge was televised by Fox from its beginning in 1999 until 2005. ESPN began its telecasts in 2006. During the years Fox showed the Challenge, it was held at the same site as that year's Super Bowl. The ESPN events have been televised from the Miami Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida (coincidentally, the home area of Super Bowl XLI, although at a different location, Dolphin Stadium). In 2009 however, when Super Bowl XLIII was held at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, the event was televised from Pepin/Rood Stadium at the University of Tampa. College football (french: Football universitaire) refers to gridiron football played by teams of student athletes. It was through college football play that American football rules first gained popularity in the United States. Unlike most other sports in North America, no official minor league farm organizations exist in American or Canadian football. Powerlifting
Powerlifting is a strength sport that consists of three attempts at maximal weight on three lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift. As in the sport of Olympic weightlifting, it involves the athlete attempting a maximal weight single-lift effort of a barbell loaded with weight plates. Powerlifting evolved from a sport known as "odd lifts", which followed the same three-attempt format but used a wider variety of events, akin to strongman competition. Eventually odd lifts became standardized to the current three. The Super Bowl is the annual final playoff game of the National Football League (NFL) to determine the league champion. Miami Orange Bowl
The Miami Orange Bowl was an outdoor athletic stadium in Miami, Florida from 1937 until 2008. The stadium was located in the Little Havana neighborhood west of Downtown Miami.
