Collected Remixes
''Collected Remixes'' is a compilation album of remixes by American hip hop musician Alias. It was released on Anticon in 2007. Critical reception David Ma of ''XLR8R'' said: "Needless to say, Alias adapts seamlessly to the diverse cast and packs power into the disc's 11 tracks." Brian Howe of ''Pitchfork'' gave the album a 5.5 out of 10, saying: "Any of these on their own might impress, but collected together, they blur into anonymity, lacking the diversity or the nuance necessary to uphold the weight of the album format." Mark Schiller of ''PopMatters'' gave the album 6 stars out of 10, saying: "As long as you're not looking for innovation at every turn, Alias can punctuate a beautiful moment like few others." Alias (musician)
Brendon Whitney (April 5, 1976 – March 30, 2018), better known by his stage name Alias, was a producer and rapper from Hollis, Maine. He was a co-founder of the indie hip hop record label Anticon. 2007 Compilation Albums
7 (seven) is the natural number following 6 and preceding 8. It is the only prime number preceding a cube. As an early prime number in the series of positive integers, the number seven has greatly symbolic associations in religion, mythology, superstition and philosophy. The seven Classical planets resulted in seven being the number of days in a week. It is often considered lucky in Western culture and is often seen as highly symbolic. Unlike Western culture, in Vietnamese culture, the number seven is sometimes considered unlucky. It is the first natural number whose pronunciation contains more than one syllable. Evolution of the Arabic digit In the beginning, Indians wrote 7 more or less in one stroke as a curve that looks like an uppercase vertically inverted. The western Ghubar Arabs' main contribution was to make the longer line diagonal rather than straight, though they showed some tendencies to making the digit more rectilinear. The eastern Arabs developed the digit fr ...

Alias & Tarsier
''Brookland/Oaklyn'' is the only collaborative studio album by Alias & Tarsier. It was released on Anticon in 2006. Critical reception Brian Howe of ''Pitchfork'' gave the album a 7.0 out of 10, saying, "for the bulk of it, Alias stays behind the boards and Tarsier behind the mic, resulting in the most enjoyable music to which the producer's name has ever been attached." Meanwhile, Cameron MacDonald of ''XLR8R'' said, "no matter how many tricks Alias has up his sleeve, Tarsier's lullaby voice is not strong enough to carry this record." Marisa Brown of AllMusic gave the album 3.5 stars out of 5, saying: "The album is so close to being fantastic, and knowing the potential that exists is what makes it so frustrating when ''Brookland/Oaklyn'' comes up short." Track listing Personnel Credits adapted from liner notes. * Alias – vocals (3), instruments, production, arrangement, recording, mixing, photography * Tarsier – vocals, piano (1, 3), bass organ (5), synthesizer (8), effect ...

Sixtoo
Sixtoo was the main project of Canadian underground hip hop DJ, producer and rapper Vaughn Robert Squire between 1996 and 2007. He has since retired the Sixtoo name, and is pursuing other directions in electronic music, with a large genre shift from experimental hip hop to deeper club sounds of various tempos. He has also released music as Speakerbruiser Rob, and Prison Garde. History Sixtoo rose to prominence in the mid-1990s underground hip hop scene, initially as half of Halifax, Nova Scotia hip hop duo Sebutones, along with Buck 65. During that time, he worked with Sage Francis, Moka Only, Mr. Dibbs and other members of Anticon. In 2000, Sixtoo moved to Montreal where he signed on with UK-based record label Vertical Form. Soon after came the release of ''Antagonist Survival Kit'', a synth-based sample album that showcased both sides of his skills: on the mic and on the sampler. In 2003, Sixtoo signed to Ninja Tune. Lali Puna
Lali Puna is a German, Munich-based electropop band originally from Weilheim in Oberbayern, Germany. History Valerie Trebeljahr, the lead writer and singer, comes from Busan, Korea. The name of the band, meaning ''Valerie from Busan'', references this, as ''Lali'' is a diminutive form of ''Valerie'', and ''Puna'' is a childish spelling of Busan (which is often transliterated ''Pusan''). She also lived ten years in Portugal before moving to Germany, and that's reflected in some of her songs, featuring lyrics in Portuguese. Valerie played in an all-female band called L.B.Page, until 1998, when she released a 7" called ''Safe Side'' under the moniker ''Lali Puna''. She was later joined by Markus Acher, already lead singer and guitarist of The Notwist and Tied & Tickled Trio (with whom she was also romantically involved and also formed a side-project called John Yoko), Christoph Brandner, who played drums with Acher in the Tied & Tickled Trio, and keyboardist Florian Zimmer. ...

Christ
Jesus, likely from he, יֵשׁוּעַ, translit=Yēšūaʿ, label=Hebrew/Aramaic ( AD 30 or 33), also referred to as Jesus Christ or Jesus of Nazareth (among other Names and titles of Jesus in the New Testament, names and titles), was a first-century Jews, Jewish preacher and religious leader; he is the central figure of Christianity, the Major religious groups, world's largest religion. Most Christians believe he is the Incarnation (Christianity), incarnation of God the Son and the awaited Messiah#Christianity, Messiah (the Christ (title), Christ) prophesied in the Hebrew Bible. Virtually all modern scholars of antiquity agree that Historicity of Jesus, Jesus existed historically. 13 & God
13 & God is a collaboration between American indie hip hop duo Themselves and German indie rock band The Notwist. The group is signed both to Anticon and Alien Transistor. History The band's name 13 & God stems from the concept of the 12 apostles and Jesus Christ forming a group that comprises 13 mortal men as well as God. Distinguishing between Themselves and The Notwist in the context of which group is '13' and which is 'God' is thus disingenuous. In the example above, God is inherently contained within '13', creating a symbiotic relationship so strong it is unable to be severed. As 13 & God are not a Christian group, but do explore elements of philosophy, spirituality and existentialism, the name 13 & God is generally considered to be more of a reflection of those elements, as well as the concept of 'identity' itself. Alternatively, it may just be a play on words with the prematurely sexy track by Boogie Down Productions titled '13 and Good' ' They are joined live by Jordan D ...

Alternative Hip Hop
Alternative hip hop (also known as alternative rap) is a subgenre of hip hop music that encompasses a wide range of styles that are not typically identified as mainstream. AllMusic defines it as comprising " hip hop groups that refuse to conform to any of the traditional stereotypes of rap, such as gangsta, bass, hardcore, and party rap. Instead, they blur genres drawing equally from funk and pop/rock, as well as jazz, soul, reggae, and even folk." Alternative hip hop developed in the late 1980s and experienced a degree of mainstream recognition during the early-to-mid 1990s. While some groups such as Arrested Development and The Fugees managed to achieve commercial success before breaking up, many alternative rap acts tend to be embraced by alternative rock listeners other than hip-hop or pop audiences. The commercial and cultural momentum was impeded by the then  -also emerging, significantly harder-edged West Coast gangsta rap. A resurgence came about in the late 19 ...
