Council For Aboriginal Rights
The Council for Aboriginal Rights (CAR) was founded in Melbourne in 1951 in order to improve rights for Indigenous Australians. Although based in the state of Victoria, it was a national organisation and its influence was felt throughout Australia; it was regarded as one of the most important Indigenous rights organisations of the 1950s. It supported causes in several other states, notably Western Australia and Queensland, and the Northern Territory. Some of its members went on to be important figures in other Indigenous rights organisations. The Council wound up in the 1980s, after some of its work had borne fruit by bringing awareness of many injustices enshrined in legislation to the wider Australian and international community, and public opinion brought changes to the political landscape in Australia and both legislation and government support for services to Indigenous people had improved. Colin Henry Williams (born 12 August 1952) is a British Anglican priest. Since 2015, he has served as an Archdeacon in the Diocese in Europe; he was Archdeacon of Lancaster from 1999 to 2005. Early life and education Williams was born on 12 August 1952, the son of William Henry Williams and Blanche Williams. He was educated at King George V Grammar School for Boys, Southport, and Pembroke College, Oxford, whence he graduated Bachelor of Arts (BA) 1973 and proceeded Master of Arts (Oxford) (MA Oxon) 1977. He trained at the College of Law, Chester, qualified and practised as a solicitor in Wigan, 1974–1978. Ordained ministry Williams trained for the ministry at St Stephen's House, Oxford, 1980–1981, gaining a second BA. University Of Plymouth Colleges Network
The University of Plymouth Colleges (UPC) network is a partnership between the University of Plymouth and local colleges to deliver a range of higher education courses in Bristol, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset, as well as the Channel Islands. The network began in 1989 with the Polytechnic South West. The polytechnic entered into partnership agreements with local FE colleges in Cornwall, Devon and Somerset to extend the provision of HE opportunities. The initial intake was 450 students. By 1992, the polytechnic had become the University of Plymouth, and the network was devised as the UPC in 2003. His Majesty were an Australian hard rock group which formed in 1983 by two brothers, Colin (ex-AC/DC) on drums and Denny Burgess (ex-The Throb) on bass guitar. Both were former members of the Masters Apprentices. His Majesty also included Yukiko Davis on lead vocals, Mitch Smith on keyboards and Colin Williams on guitar. History The band recorded a string of unsuccessful singles. One track, "C me comin'" (February 1985), was used throughout Australia as the opener for the United States feature film, ''Ghostbusters'', a historical first for an Australian group. The group disbanded in 1987. They reformed in 1992 with a new line-up, they changed their name to Good Time Charlie by 1998 but disbanded late that year.
