Colin Smith (athlete)
Colin George Smith (2 August 1935 – 21 December 2014) was a British former track and field athlete who specialised in the javelin throw. He was the gold medallist in the event at the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games, setting a games record mark of to win the title. He returned to defend his title in 1962 and was much improved with a lifetime best throw of , but he was beaten into the silver medal position by Australia's Alf Mitchell. Born in Harlesden, London, he took up throwing events while a young teenager at school. Colin Smith (English Footballer, Born 1951)
Colin Smith (born 30 November 1951) is an English former footballer who played as a defender in the Football League for Darlington. Smith was born in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, and attended Bishop Auckland Grammar School. He joined Leeds United as a 15-year-old, and became an apprentice professional in 1969, but did not progress to the first team. He chose not to continue a football career, instead training as a teacher. After qualifying, he worked in special needs education, and played non-league football for clubs including Stockton, Gateshead, Bishop Auckland, West Auckland Town and Shildon, as well as winning the 1976 FA Sunday Cup with Brandon United. In the 1984–85 season, he made five appearances for Football League club Darlington. Three were in the Associate Members' Cup and twoa 2–1 win at home to Peterborough United and a defeat by the same score away to Northampton Townwere in the Fourth Division. Sir Colin Stansfield Smith, (1 October 1932 – 18 June 2013) was a British architect and academic. He played over 100 games of first-class cricket in the 1950s. Background Colin Smith was born in Didsbury, Manchester. His father, Stansfield Smith, played Lancashire League cricket regularly for Accrington Cricket Club in the 1920s and once in Minor Counties cricket for Cheshire in 1949. Colin Smith's older brother, Donald, played in three first-class cricket matches for Lancashire in 1951 and 1952. Stansfield Smith was educated at William Hulme's Grammar School, Manchester, and Christ's College, Cambridge, where he studied at the School of Architecture from 1953 to 1958. Colin Milner Smith (2 November 1936 – 10 July 2020) was an English judge and first-class cricketer. The son of Alan Milner Smith and Vera Ivy (née Cannon), he was born at Mottingham in November 1936. He was educated at Tonbridge School and spent two years in National Service with the Royal Marines before going up to Brasenose College, Oxford. While studying at Oxford, he made a single appearance in first-class cricket as a wicket-keeper for Oxford University against Sussex at Oxford in 1958. Batting twice in the match, he was dismissed for 12 runs by Ted James in the Oxford first innings, while in their second innings he was dismissed for 4 runs by the same bowler. He continued to play cricket past the age of 70, representing teams such as Old Tonbridgians, Yellowhammers, Band of Brothers, Limpsfield CC. Colin John Ogilvie Smith (born 27 September 1972) is a Scottish cricket player. He is a right-handed batsman and a wicket-keeper. He made his début for the Scottish cricket team against Surrey on 23 June 1999 and has played for Scotland 119 times in all. This includes three One Day Internationals, his first coming against Pakistan in June 2006. He has also played for Sussex and Warwickshire at second XI level. Colin Smith is an Australian former lightweight rower. He was an eight time national champion and rowed in the lightweight men's four which won Australia's first rowing World Championship title – a gold medal at the 1974 World Rowing Championships in Lucerne . During his career Smith won four medals at World Championship events. Club and state rowing Smith's senior rowing was from the Melbourne University Boat Club. At the Australian Rowing Championships in 1975 and 1977 he won a national championship title in the lightweight four. In 1979, he won a national title in the lightweight eight.
