Colin Skipp
Colin Skipp (8 August 1939 – 19 November 2019) was a British actor, best known for playing Tony Archer in the BBC radio series ''The Archers'' for 46 years. Skipp won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and studied alongside actor Charles Collingwood, who plays Brian Aldridge in ''The Archers''. Skipp had played the character of Tony Archer for 46 years (1967–2013), on the date of his retirement, making him the seventh longest continuously serving radio soap actor. He decided to retire after having several heart attacks and major heart surgery. The role was taken over in January 2014 by the actor David Troughton. In 2004, he directed the stage play ''The Sound of Julie'' at the Charles Cryer Theatre, Carshalton, a dramatisation of the life of actress Julie Andrews. Royal Academy Of Dramatic Art
The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA; ) is a drama school in London, England, that provides vocational conservatoire training for theatre, film, television, and radio. It is based in the Bloomsbury area of Central London, close to the Senate House complex of the University of London and is a founding member of the Federation of Drama Schools. It is one of the oldest drama schools in the United Kingdom, founded in 1904 by Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree. It moved to buildings on Gower Street in 1905. It was granted a Royal Charter in 1920 and a new theatre was built on Malet Street, behind the Gower Street buildings that was opened by Edward, Prince of Wales, in 1921. Charles Henry Collingwood (born 30 May 1943) is a Canadian-born British actor. Biography Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, and educated at Sherborne School in Dorset, England, he trained at RADA. He is best known for playing the role of Brian Aldridge in the long-running BBC Radio 4 soap opera ''The Archers'' since March 1975. He is married to Judy Bennett who plays Shula Hebden Lloyd in the series. Collingwood credits the television producer and director Dorothea Brooking as giving him his break in the medium. Brooking specialised in children's programmes, mainly for the BBC, and cast Collingwood in ''The Raven and the Cross'' (1974) and ''The Secret Garden'' (1975). David Troughton
David Troughton (born 9 June 1950) is an English actor. He is known for his Shakespearean roles on the British stage and for his many roles on British television, including Dr Bob Buzzard in ''A Very Peculiar Practice'' and Ricky Hanson in ''New Tricks''. Early life and family David Troughton was born in Hampstead, London. He comes from an acting family of Jewish ancestry. Charles Cryer Theatre
The Charles Cryer Theatre is a studio theatre located in the High Street in Carshalton in the London Borough of Sutton. The theatre is named after the man who led the campaign to open the Secombe Theatre in neighbouring Sutton. It was opened by Prince Edward in 1991. It closed in 2016, but in November 2019 it reopened under new management. Building The theatre is housed in a building which was built as a public hall in 1874 for the village. Prior to becoming a theatre it has been used as a roller skating rink (from 1900 to 1912) and a cinema (from 1912 to 1939). To convert the building to a theatre, the roof and the facade were renewed. A stone-set wind vane and three red brick entrance arches were kept. Notable are the tiled eaves to each side of the building, which project past the front. Carshalton
Carshalton () is a town, with a historic village centre, in south London, England, within the London Borough of Sutton. It is situated south-southwest of Charing Cross, in the valley of the River Wandle, one of the sources of which is Carshalton Ponds in the middle of the village. Prior to the creation of Greater London in 1965, Carshalton was in the administrative county of Surrey. Carshalton consists of a number of neighbourhoods.
