Colin McCathie
Colin George McCathie (9 May 1910 – 1 September 1986) was an accountant and member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography McCathie was born in Gympie, Queensland, to parents George Critchley McCathie and his wife Isabella Falconer (née McLeod). He was educated at One Mile Boys' State School in Gympie, Gympie High School, and the University of Queensland where he graduated as a Bachelor of Arts. For ten years from 1927 he was a school teacher at Gympie, Emerald, and Mount Coolum before becoming a bus proprietor in Ayr for eight years. He practiced accountancy and real estate in Ayr from 1946 until 1950. On the 1st Jan 1942 McCathie married Hazel Olive Whitchurch and together had one son. He died in September 1986 at Sandgate in Brisbane. Public career Chairman of the Ayr Shire Council from 1946 to 1952, McCathie won the new seat of Haughton at the 1950 Queensland state election for the Labor Party. Electoral District Of Haughton
The electoral district of Haughton was a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Queensland, Australia. It was first created in a redistribution ahead of the 1950 state election, and existed until the 1960 state election. Haughton was located south of Townsville and incorporated much of the former districts of Mundingburra and Kennedy. Haughton was abolished in 1960, replaced by Burdekin. Emerald, Queensland
Emerald is a rural town and locality in the Central Highlands Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Emerald had a population of 14,906 people. The town is the headquarters for the Central Highlands Regional Council. Geography Emerald lies on the Nogoa River, a tributary of the Fitzroy River. The town lies approximately from the Coral Sea coast and approximately 270 km west of the city of Rockhampton by road at the junction of the Capricorn and Gregory highways. Emerald sits approximately 10 km south of the Tropic of Capricorn. History The traditional owners include the Gayiri people who occupied the area for tens of thousands of years before European colonisation began in the nineteenth century. Vince Gair
Vincent Clair Gair (25 February 190111 November 1980) was an Australian politician. He served as Premier of Queensland from 1952 until 1957, when his stormy relations with the trade union movement saw him expelled from the Labor Party. He was elected to the Australian Senate and led the Democratic Labor Party from 1965 to 1973. In 1974 he was appointed Australian Ambassador to Ireland by the Whitlam government, which caused his expulsion from the DLP. Early life Gair was born in Rockhampton to John Alexander and Catherine Mary Gair, a Scottish father and an Irish mother, and raised a Catholic. His parents were founding members of the Labor Party in Queensland in the 1890s. He began work with the Department of Railways upon the family's move to Dutton Park, Queensland. In 1916 he joined the Labor Party. He married Florence Glynn in 1924. She died in an accident five years later. Ayr is a rural town and locality in the Shire of Burdekin, Queensland, Australia. It is the centre of a sugarcane-growing region and the administrative centre for the Burdekin Shire Council. In the , the locality of Ayr had a population of 8,738 people. Geography Ayr is located south of Townsville on the Bruce Highway and away from the (smaller) town of Home Hill. Mount Coolum is a coastal suburb in the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Mount Coolum had a population of 4,265 people. Geography The Sunshine Motorway passes through the locality from the north-west (Coolum Beach) to the south-west (Marcoola).
