Cailean Mór
Cailean Mór Caimbeul (also known as Sir Colin Campbell; died after 1296) is one of the earliest attested members of Clan Campbell and an important ancestor figure of the later medieval Earls of Argyll. Cailean was the son of Gilleasbaig, a knight and lord of the estates of Menstrie and Sauchie in Clackmannanshire. It was first suggested in the 1970s that Cailean's mother was Afraig, a daughter of Cailean mac Dhonnchaidh, the probable father of Niall, Earl of Carrick. Although it has also been suggested that this Afraig was the daughter of Niall himself, there is no doubt that Afraig was of the family of the Gaelic Earls of Carrick. This means that Cailean himself was the cousin of the future king, Robert I of Scotland, which explains why the Campbells were so attached to the Bruce cause during the Wars of Scottish Independence. Colin McIver Campbell (born 31 August 1938) is a Scottish politician and military historian. He was a Scottish National Party (SNP) Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for West of Scotland region from 1999 to 2003. Campbell is a former history teacher and secondary school headmaster. Early life Campbell was born on 31 August 1938 in Paisley, Scotland. Campbell was educated at Paisley Grammar School, Glasgow University, and Jordanhill College of Education. Career in education Campbell worked in education from 1961 until 1989, teaching history at Hillhead High School in Glasgow, at Paisley Grammar School, Greenock Academy, and becoming the first Deputy Head of Merksworth High School in Paisley. Colin Campbell (born 11 August 1977) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler who played for Durham. Campbell played twice for Durham, making his debut in 1996. Colin Campbell (born 1 December 1956) is a Scottish retired footballer who played as a midfielder. He played in the Scottish Football League for Hibernian, Dundee United, Airdrieonians and Meadowbank Thistle. Career Campbell was born on the island of Benbecula in the Outer Hebrides. He began his football career in local amateur football, making his debut for the Benbecula team aged just ten. He later played for Harris and helped them to the Lewis and Harris Football League title in 1978. By this time Campbell was a student at the University of Edinburgh and while playing for the university football team he was recommended to Hibernian, signing for them in the summer of 1978. Colin Campbell (died 26 January 1752) was a Scottish astronomer. He grew up in Jamaica and died there in Kingston in 1752. He matriculated at Glasgow University, in 1720. He was invested as a fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) in 1733. He studied Newton's theory of the diminution of gravity away from the equator. He made astronomical observations, in correspondence with Edmund Halley. He held the office of Member of the Council (Jamaica) in 1742. Colin J. Campbell (24 July 1931 – 13 November 2022) was a British petroleum geologist who predicted that oil production would peak by 2007. He claimed the consequences of this are uncertain but drastic, due to the world's dependency on fossil fuels for the vast majority of its energy. His theories have received wide attention but are disputed and have not significantly changed governmental energy policies at this time. To deal with declining global oil production, he proposed the Rimini protocol. Influential papers by Campbell include ''The Coming Oil Crisis'', written with Jean Laherrère in 1998 and credited with convincing the International Energy Agency of the coming peak; and ''The End of Cheap Oil'', published the same year in ''Scientific American''. Colin Campbell (21 January 1817 – 28 November 1903) was a pastoralist and politician in colonial Victoria, a member of the Victorian Legislative Council, and later, the Victorian Legislative Assembly. Early life Campbell was born in Glasgow, Scotland, the sixth son of Alexander Campbell, a merchant, and Barbara, ''née'' Campbell. He was educated at the Edinburgh Academy from 1825 to 1832 and then entered Exeter College, Oxford, gaining a B.A. in 1838. Colonial Australia Campbell and his brother Alexander arrived in the Port Phillip District via Hobart in 1839. When Victoria became a separate colony in 1851, Campbell refused a nomination to the Victorian Legislative Council and became a school inspector.
