''Coleus barbatus'', also known by the synonyms ''Plectranthus barbatus'' and incorrectly ''Coleus forskalaei'' (and other spellings of this epithet), is a tropical perennial plant related to the typical coleus species. It produces forskolin, an extract useful for pharmaceutical preparations and research in cell biology. Name The Brazilian name is (), or , as opposed to the Chilean true boldo; (); (); or (; 'Oxalá's carpet', because of its velvety texture). Taxonomy ''Coleus barbatus'' was first described by Henry Cranke Andrews in 1810 as ''Plectranthus barbatus''. It was transferred to ''Coleus'' by Bentham in 1830. Although ''Coleus'' was previously sunk into ''Plectranthus'', the original binomial was revived in a major study of the subtribe Plectranthinae in 2019. Henry Cranke Andrews (floruit, fl. 1794 – 1830), was an English botanist, botanical artist and engraver. As he always published as Henry C. Andrews, and due to difficulty finding records, the C. was often referred to as Charles, until a record of his marriage registration was found in 2017. He lived in Knightsbridge, and was married to Anne Kennedy, the daughter of Lee and Kennedy, John Kennedy of Hammersmith, a nurseryman who assisted Andrews in the descriptions of the plants he illustrated. He was an accomplished and unusual botanical artist, in that he was not only the artist but also the engraver, colourist, and publisher of his books in an era when most artists were only employed to draw plates. The International Plant Names Index (IPNI) describes itself as "a database of the names and associated basic bibliographical details of seed plants, ferns and lycophytes." Coverage of plant names is best at the rank of species and genus. It includes basic bibliographical details associated with the names. Its goals include eliminating the need for repeated reference to primary sources for basic bibliographic information about plant names. The IPNI also maintains a list of standardized author abbreviations. These were initially based on Brummitt & Powell (1992), but new names and abbreviations are continually added. A glucuronide, also known as glucuronoside, is any substance produced by linking glucuronic acid to another substance via a glycosidic bond. The glucuronides belong to the glycosides. Glucuronidation, the conversion of chemical compounds to glucuronides, is a method that animals use to assist in the excretion of toxic substances, drugs or other substances that cannot be used as an energy source. Glucuronic acid is attached via a glycosidic bond to the substance, and the resulting glucuronide, which has a much higher water solubility than the original substance, is eventually excreted by the kidneys.
