Colectivo de Víctimas del Terrorismo en el País Vasco (Collective of Victims of Terrorism in the Basque Country, COVITE) is an organization for relatives of victims of terrorism in the Southern Basque Country, Basque Country. It was founded in November 1998. COVITE opposes the Basque abertzale left, which it sees as continuing to legitimize ETA (separatist group), ETA's use of violence. In May 2023 COVITE criticized EH Bildu for including 44 former ETA members on its electoral list. In July 2023 COVITE criticized rhetoric used by the People's Party (Spain), People's Party to link Pedro Sánchez with ETA (specifically the slogan "Let Txapote vote for you"), saying that it trivialized terrorism and politicized victims' memories. Abertzale left ( eu, Ezker abertzalea, es, Izquierda abertzale; ) is a term used to refer to the parties or organizations of the Basque nationalist/separatist left, stretching from democratic socialism to communism. This leftist character is highlighted in contrast to the traditional '' jeltzale'' nationalism represented by the Basque Nationalist Party (EAJ-PNV), a conservative and Christian-democratic party, which has long been the largest in the Basque Country. EH Bildu, short for Euskal Herria Bildu ( en, link=yes, Basque Country Gather or Basque Country Unite) is a left-wing, Basque nationalist, pro-independence political coalition active in the Spanish autonomous communities of Basque Country, Navarre and Burgos Province. The People's Party ( es, Partido Popular ; known mostly by its acronym, PP ) is a conservative and Christian-democratic political party in Spain. The People's Party was a 1989 re-foundation of People's Alliance (AP), a party led by former minister of the dictatorship Manuel Fraga and founded back in 1976 as alliance of post-Francoist proto-parties. Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón (; born 29 February 1972) is a Spanish politician who has been Prime Minister of Spain since June 2018. He has also been Secretary-General of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) since June 2017, having previously held that office from 2014 to 2016. "Let Txapote vote for you" ( es, ¡Que te vote Txapote!; full version: , "Let Txapote vote for you, Sánchez!") is a political slogan that was popular among the political right and far-right in Spain during the months prior to the 2023 general elections. It was commonly used against Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and mentions the ETA terrorist Francisco Javier García Gaztelu (nicknamed "Txapote"). The Basque conflict, also known as the Spain–ETA conflict, was an armed and political conflict from 1959 to 2011 between Spain and the Basque National Liberation Movement, a group of social and political Basque nationalism, Basque organizations which separatism, sought independence from Spain and France.
