Zerah Colburn (September 1, 1804 – March 2, 1839) was an American child prodigy of the 19th century who gained fame as a mental calculator.W. W. He was thought to be intellectually disabled until the age of six. However, after six weeks of schooling, his father overheard him repeating his multiplication tables. His father was not sure whether or not he learned the tables from his older brothers and sisters, but he decided to test him further on his mathematical abilities and discovered that there was something special about his son when Zerah correctly multiplied 13 and 97. Colburn's abilities developed rapidly and he was soon able to solve such problems as the number of seconds in 2,000 years, the product of 12,225 and 1,223, or the square root of 1,449. The Colburn School is a private music school in Los Angeles with a focus on music and dance. It consists of four divisions: the Conservatory of Music, Music Academy, Community School of Performing Arts and the Dance Academy. It is located adjacent to the Museum of Contemporary Art and across the street from the Walt Disney Concert Hall. History The school was established in 1950 as a preparatory arm of the USC Thornton School of Music. Colburn Automobile Company
The Colburn Automobile Company was a Brass Era car manufacturer in Denver, Colorado. The company produced cars from 1906-1911. in their factory at 15th Street and Colfax Avenue. Colburns were built as a Roadster (automobile), roadster, and later as a touring car (Model 35). They were fashioned after the French Renault with the radiator positioned behind the sloping hood. The Model 30 and Model 40 roadsters were fast with a top speed of 72 miles per hour and often competed in road races and track events around the Denver area. The roadster featured a 4-cylinder, 40HP engine and 4 speed transmission and sold for $4,500.00. A large shiny brass "C" emblazoned the front of the automobiles. The Colburn Family Herbert C. Zerah Colburn (January 13, 1832 – April 26, 1870) was an American engineer specialising in steam locomotive design, technical journalist and publisher. Career Without any formal schooling, Colburn was a teenage prodigy. Barely in his teens at the start of the railroad boom, he found work in Lowell, Massachusetts as an apprentice in the "drafting room" of the Lowell Machine Shops where America’s first steam locomotives were taking shape. While working among the locomotives Colburn also began to write and before long compiled his first regular newssheet – ''Monthly Mechanical Tracts''. As he moved about the locomotive works of New England gathering experience and an eye for engineering detail, he also produced his first book, ''The Throttle Lever''. Elliot Haydn George Colburn (born 6 August 1992) is a British Conservative Party politician. He has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Carshalton and Wallington since the 2019 general election. Colburn also served as councillor for the Cheam ward on Sutton Council from 2018 to 2022. Early life Colburn was born at St Helier Hospital and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children in St Helier, London. He grew up in Sutton, London. He attended Carshalton Boys Sports College.
