Arnaldo Cézar Coelho
Arnaldo David Cézar Coelho (born 15 January 1943) is a former football referee. He was the first Brazilian, indeed the first non-European, to take charge of the FIFA World Cup final when he officiated in the 1982 final between Italy and West Germany. Coelho's career began as a beach soccer referee; he became professional in 1965 (at one time, famously, telling reporters that he was the highest paid match official in the world) and was appointed to the international list in 1968. He was selected for both the 1978 and 1982 FIFA World Cups. In total he officiated in seven matches during the World Cup finals, three as a referee (the mentioned final from 1982 included). Jaime Luiz Coelho
Jaime Luiz Coelho (; July 26, 1916 – August 5, 2013) was a Brazilian archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church. Until his death at the age of 97 he was one of the oldest bishops in the Church and one of the oldest Brazilian bishops. Early life The son of João Amélio Coelho and Guilhermina Cunha, Coelho was born in Franca, Brazil. His involvement with the church was lifelong: at age eight he was an altar boy at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Conception in Franca. He attended high school at the Colégio São José in Batatais, run by Claretian fathers, and in 1935 entered the Seminary of Maria Imaculada do Ipiranga in São Paulo, where he studied philosophy and theology. Pedro Manuel Mamede Passos Coelho (; born 24 July 1964) is a Portuguese politician and university guest lecturer who was the 118th prime minister of Portugal, in office from 2011 to 2015. He was the leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) between 2010 and 2018. Passos Coelho started very early in politics and was the national leader of the youth branch of PSD. Nicolau Coelho (c.1460, in Felgueiras – 1502, off the coast of Mozambique) was an expert Portuguese navigator and explorer during the age of discovery. He participated in the discovery of the route to India by Vasco da Gama where he commanded Berrio, the first caravel to return; was captain of a ship in the fleet headed by Pedro Álvares Cabral who landed in Brazil. He died at sea, possibly off the coast of Mozambique, while returning from India in the 5th Portuguese Armada with Francisco de Albuquerque. Mário Coelho Pinto de Andrade (21 August 1928 – 26 August 1990) was an Angolan poet and politician. Biography He was born in Golungo Alto, in Portuguese Angola, and studied philosophy at the University of Lisbon and sociology at the Sorbonne in Paris. While there, he became active in opposing Portuguese colonial rule of Angola, and wrote anti-colonial poetry. In 1955, he took part in the founding of the Angolan Communist Party. In 1956, he was the founder of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) and was elected its first President in 1960. Manuel Rodrigues Coelho
Manuel Rodrigues Coelho (ca. 15551635) was a Portuguese organist and composer. He is the first important Iberian keyboard composer since Cabezón. Coelho was born in Elvas around 1555 and probably received early education at the Elvas Cathedral. He may also have studied at the Badajoz Cathedral, where he worked as organist from 1573 to 1577. At some point during the 1580s Coelho returned to Elvas and worked at the cathedral there. He left the post in 1602 after becoming court organist at Lisbon. He died in 1635, probably in Lisbon. The composer's surviving works are preserved in a 1620 print ''Flores de musica pera o instrumento de tecla & harpa'', published in Lisbon. José da Silva Coelho was a Goan writer who was the author of several dozen pieces of wickedly satirical short fiction in the 1920s and 1930s, published for the most part in the Portuguese-language newspaper ''O Heraldo''. He is 'easily the most prolific Goan fictionist in Portuguese'. Biography José da Silva Coelho was born in Margão in 1889, one of fifteen children (among them Mario da Silva Coelho, himself a prominent poet). After attending the lyceum in Panjim and pursuing private law studies he became a public notary, working at first as an assistant to his father (also a notary public), then on a posting to Damão, and then in Bicholim in the Novas Conquistas, where he worked for the rest of his life.
